Marilyn Welborn Pigott died Saturday, Nov. 22, 2008 and entered eternity with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. This occurred after a valiant struggle with multiple illnesses, and in the last days a battle with cancer.Arrangements are under the direction of McDonald Funeral Home of Picayune with interment in Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The funeral service will be conducted by Dr. Keith Warden and will be held in the chapel of McDonald Funeral Home on Tuesday, Nov. 25 at 10 a.m. The Rev. Hugh Acton will officiate at the graveside service.Her life was one of service, actively working as a registered nurse for 43 years. She was born on September 6, 1925, in Hancock County, Mississippi. She graduated from Kiln High School in 1943 and entered nurses training under the Cadet Nursing Corps at New Biloxi Hospital on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Part of her training was done at Charity Hospital in New Orleans. She completed her nursing career in 1990 at South Mississippi Regional Medical Center in Laurel.Her life of service and compassion was not limited to her nursing. She was well known as a generous and caring person by all of her family and friends, not to mention even strangers. Indeed her ministry in life was to encourage others in times of trial. God had prepared her for this ministry through her own personal trials. She lost her husband early in life under tragic circumstances and her son Stephen at the age of thirteen. She drew her strength from her Lord and readily recognized his continual presence with her.She was preceded in death by her parents, Grady and Izella Welborn, her husband, Harold Oneal Pigott, her son, Stephen Harold Pigott, and a sister, Emma Jean Williams. Her survivors include one daughter, Barbara P. Balaski and her husband Phil of Heidelberg, one son, Douglas Welborn Pigott and his wife Garnette of Picayune. In addition she leaves behind two brothers, James "Webb" Welborn of Moody, Ala., and Wade Welborn of Picayune. Also left behind are three grandchildren Chris Balaski, Jill Balaski McCarty, and Josh Pigott, as well as two step-grandchildren Eric Dahlbeck and Jayme Bunch. The youngest of her survivors are Matthew Balaski, her great-grandchild, and Gracie Bunch her step-great-grandchild. Beyond these there are numerous nieces and nephews.Pall bearers will be Joel Pigott, John Pigott, Richard Welborn, Jerry Welborn, Gary Williams and Rucks Robinson. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given to First Baptist Church of Picayune or the new Pearl River County Community Band, c/o Johnny Baker, 1807 Evangeling Drive, Picayune, MS 39466.The family would like to thank Dr.'s Cannon, Ciegelski, Dodd, and Penland of Jefferson Medical Associates for their compassionate care and thoroughness; as well as their staff's. Our appreciation also goes to SCRMC nurses and other staff for the care they rendered. A special thanks also goes to Comfort Care Hospice for their assistance and guidance through these last days.
