Marilyn Rand Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 25, 2022.
After 79 years of love and devotion Marilyn Louise (Magoun) Rand peacefully took her last mortal breath and left this world on Wednesday, July 13, 2022, to join her Heavenly Father and her husband Charles Edward Rand whom God received into his presence 7 years ago through Jesus her lord & savior. She was a loving mother who cared deeply for each and every one of her children, grandchildren, & great grandchildren.

Born in Weymouth, Massachusetts on February 26, 1943, she was a daughter of the late Wilford T. Magoun and Anne R. (Hunt) Magoun.

Throughout her life she worked tirelessly as a home economics engineer, of which she held a degree in this field. Marilyn served many years as a volunteer for hospitals and other community minded organizations. One of her great joys was serving at pregnancy centers and working hard to save the lives of unborn children. Marilyn loved her church home at First United Methodist Church in Hillsville, Virginia. She was active in many ministries including the Sassy Sisters, Bible Studies, and the card ministry.

Marilyn was known for her amazing cookies. She led her own cookie ministry baking hundreds of dozens over the years to give away. She would always try new recipes and keep improving on them until they were delicious bites of heaven on earth. Dutifully eliminating by consuming any cookies not up to par along the way. Marilyn was also a seamstress. Making clothes for her family and friends over the years as well as anything made from cloth such as curtains and tablecloths. She contributed mightily to many ministries making clergy robes for special pastors including three she made for her son-in-law, Rev. Allen Boliek.

Marilyn along with her husband was a veteran on the United States Coast Guard. She served our country with joy and pride.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles E. Rand, and one unnamed child.

She is survived by her two children, Charles W. Rand of Woodbridge, VA and Jennifer Rand Boliek and husband, Rev. Allen P. Boliek of Hickory, NC; grandchildren, Jessica Schaffer and husband Allen of Hickory, Ayla Rand, Theodore Boliek and wife Jessica Boliek of Wilkesboro, NC, Elijah Boliek and Fiance Madison Spann of Morganton, NC; 4 great grandchildren, Sebastian, Ana, Elena and Elizabeth.

A Memorial Service and celebration of Marilyn's life will be held on Saturday, July 30, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, 225 Fulcher St., Hillsville, VA 24343. The family will host a Tea, one of Marilyn's favorite daily routines, after the service and visit with friends.

Please no flowers. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 225 Fulcher St., Hillsville, VA 24343.

I am so sorry for the loss of the dear beautiful lady. I only knew her a short time but she was such a godly woman of faith. She brought light into the room. Blessings to the family as I know she will be missed.
