Mario Soto Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 6, 2017.
Mario Soto, age 88, passed away peacefully at his Lake Travis home on April 6, 2017. He was born November 8, 1928, in Eagle Pass, Texas to Rev. Felix Enriquez Soto, Sr. and Concepcion Reyes. On July 3, 1953, Mario married Mary Beatrice Gil, in Houston, Texas. They shared 59 years of a wonderful marriage and family life.

After celebrating their wedding, they moved to Venezuela where Mario began his career as a petroleum engineer. Mario and Bea called Venezuela their home for 25 years, where they raised their children and created lifelong endearing friendships. During his early years as a petroleum engineer, Mario was truly a pioneer as he helped develop the oil fields of tropical Venezuela. Mario found great pleasure in spending summers at his beloved Lake Travis. The lake house centered as a gathering place for family and friends to visit, enjoy home cooked meals, laughter and lifelong memories. Following their years in Venezuela, Mario and Bea moved to New Orleans where they enjoyed venturing to flea markets and antiquing in the French Quarter. However, Mario's greatest joy was his family and he will always be remembered for his unconditional love of family. He supported, encouraged and motivated his children as they began their own careers. Mario encouraged them to hold steadfast as a family throughout difficult times and to live life to the fullest. He was an exemplary husband, father and grandfather.

Mario is preceded in death by his beloved wife Bea, and their grandson Kristopher Michael Soto Medford. Mario is survived by his, four children: Michael Steven Soto, Eva Renee Soto Medford, James Edward Soto, Marisa Ann Soto Gray and, three grandsons Kevin Soto Medford, Ian Soto Medford and, Gabriel B. Soto.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. with services beginning at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, April 9, 2017 at Lake Travis United Methodist Church, 1502 FM 620 North, Lakeway, Texas 78734. Following services he will be laid to rest at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery in Pflugerville.

Please accept condolences from the Suchon family, including my mom, who remembers your dad from back to eastern VZ days.

I always looked forward to chatting with him at Creole reunions. (Next time we meet, I've got a great story to tell you about an experience your dad and I shared at a reunion.) I'm especially grateful he told me things I had not known about my dad, who passed away way too early.

Our sincerest condolences! He will indeed be missed.
