Foote Hart

FISHERSVILLE

Marion Byrd Foote Hart, 77, of Fishersville, passed away on Sunday, May 27, 2012, at Augusta Health.

She was born on June 4, 1934, in Richmond, Virginia, a daughter of the late Henry Alexander and Juanita (Marion) Foote. She is survived by her beloved son and best friend, Holland Alexander Hart of Gloucester Point, Virginia. Marion had a lifelong interest in the Arts. She studied ballet for many years and was an assistant ballet dance instructor in Richmond, Virginia, from 1957 until 1959. She loved painting portraits, making hand built figurines in clay, and making jewelry with silver and gemstone beads and generously gave many of her one of a king pieces to friends, relatives, and co-workers. It especially gave her great pleasure to see her creations enjoyed by others. Marion was a very creative and talented artist, sculptor, seamstress and gardener.

She worked for Mary Baldwin College, starting in December of 1986, where she worked for twenty four years prior to her retirement in June of 2010. Marion was the telephone voice of the Development Office and was a valuable member of the staff. She also served as a receptionist and made everyone who walked through the door feel welcome, an administrative assistant to the Director of Special Projects and later assisted all areas of Institutional Advancement. She was known and loved by many members of the governing board of the College and many alumnae. After her retirement Marion volunteered at the R. R. Smith Center for Art and History. She loved history and was a proud member of the Foote, Kidd, and Tomkins families of Virginia.

She was a member of the Tinkling Spring Presbyterian Church, Beverly Street Studio School, and Staunton Augusta Art Center. A graveside service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, June 2, 2012, at Riverview Cemetery in Waynesboro, Virginia, with the Reverend Pat Hunt and Tully Hunter officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mary Baldwin College, Annual Fund, P.O. Box 1500, Staunton, VA 24402. To Marion's family I am so sorry for your loss. I am a 1999 Graduate of MBC. My father also worked in the Development Office there. Every time I went to visit him, Marion would always come running over with her giant warming smile and a hug. She knew how to brighten a room with her smile.

I met Ms Hart when she visited at Fishersville UMC and attended the XYZ group dinners. She was such a loving and cheerful lady, I will miss seeing her. God's blessings to her family, may your fond memories support you through this sad time.

Marion was a huge part of my childhood years. Even as a child I was in awe of her. I loved her independant and outspoken nature. I especially remember her laugh, her beauty and her love for her family and friends. I was fortunate to have reconnected with her after she found me on my work website and sent me an email.

Holland, Laurie, Mom and myself offer our sincere condolences on the loss of your Mom. She was a very special Lady and we will miss her very much.

Miss Marion taught me how to see the beauty in the world around me. Being able to see that beauty has been a lifesaver for me many times over the years. She was a blessing in my life. I am praying for your family as you mourn your loss.

Marion was quite a lady. I loved hearing her stories and seeing her next artistic venture. She kept me in line at work and in retirement and I will miss the "Dear Judy" emails to setup lunch for our Fun-raiser group.

I worked with Marion at MBC and learned so much from her. I teased her about stopping at her house and picking all of her beautiful roses. My thoughts and prayers are with the family at this time of sorrow.

No love, no friendship can ever cross our path without affecting us in some way... forever.
We 'knew' Marion thru our daughter, Stephanie Hatlem's time at MBC & our Parents' Council participation. She ALWAYS had a smile on her face! I know she will be missed by many. To Holland: our condolences, thoughts and prayers are yours at this time of loss.
