Marion Mabuce Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 30, 2013.
Marion M. Mabuce, 92, of Kirkwood passed away peacefully November 27, 2013 at Manor Grove. She was born August 27, 1921 in St. Louis, Missouri to Dr. Marion and Rosa Mayo. She married Estel Mabuce December 23, 1944. He passed away September 22, 1998.

A lifelong resident of St. Louis, she graduated from Roosevelt High School, Harris Teachers College and the University of Missouri. She enjoyed many years as a guidance counselor at McKinley and Cleveland High Schools in St. Louis. After she and Estel retired they traveled extensively throughout the world. Marion was a longtime volunteer at St. Anthony's Hospital and also enjoyed gardening, cooking and visiting with friends and relatives. Above all else she enjoyed the time spent with her grandchildren. She was a member of Oak Hill Presbyterian Church for over 80 years serving as an elder, youth group leader, Sunday School teacher and chairman of the Women's Association. She also was proud to be a member of the honorary teacher's society Delta Kappa Gamma. Marion has been an inspiration and role model for her family, friends and everyone whose lives she touched.

Loving survivors include her son Bradley (Peggy) of West Des Moines, Iowa; two grandchildren, William (Tina) of West Des Moines, Iowa, and Katherine Mabuce of Minnetonka, Minnesota; two great grandsons, Adam and Ryan Mabuce of West Des Moines, Iowa; daughter-in-law Nancy Mabuce; two sisters, Carolan VanHeest and Cora Mullins of Kirkwood, Missouri; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Estel, her son Stephen and sister Martha Warren.

Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday at Hoffmeister Colonial Mortuary, 6464 Chippewa Street. The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Oak Hill Presbyterian Church, 4111 Connecticut Street, St. Louis, MO. 63116, with burial at Sunset Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to Oak Hill Presbyterian Church.

While Mrs. Mabuce was the youth group leader at Oak Hill Presbyterian, she wrote a letter of recommendation for my college application. I'm sure that beautiful letter was a big reason for my getting a scholarship. It was so kind of her and her husband to open their home to teenagers from church for our gatherings. She was a shining example of faith and compassion for all of us.

Marian was indeed a dear friend, role model, and fantastic leader of our Delta Kappa Gamma Beta Theta Chapter. She will be missed by all who knew her, but her memory will remain in our hearts and in the legacy she provided for us to follow.
With deep sympathy--
