MARION J. MCNEIL - 81

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of this gracious, lovely lady, wife and mother after several years of coping with Alzheimer's disease. Marion died peacefully Wednesday, April 20th, 2011, at home, surrounded by her family. Born in Halifax, she was the daughter of Roy and Madge Peckham. Marion is survived by her loving and dedicated husband of 57 years, Dugger, her sister Thelma DeYoung of Kingston, her three children, son Ross (Stephanie) and daughter Marie Bowness (Hugh) both of Halifax and daughter Mary-Anne Lyons (David) of Calgary, seven grandchildren, Neil, Erin, and Mark Lyons, Jamie and Lisa Bowness, Skyler and Storme McNeil, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Marion was predeceased by her sister Helen Young. Marion lead a full and active life and had the joy of many cherished friendships. Socially she was the life of a party and loved by all. She had a special quality of compassion and caring for others. Her seven grandchildren were fortunate to have been the recipients of a very special bond. Marion started her working career with the Royal Bank followed by many years of being part of the family business, Dugger's Mens Wear. She was involved in politics as an active member of the Conservative party participating in many campaigns with her husband Dugger. She was a life time member of St. Lawrence Parish, a member of Ashburn Golf Club, and a past board member of the Halifax Forum Commission. Marion spent immeasurable hours in hockey and figure skating arenas supporting her family and enjoying the sports she so loved. She always felt that anyone would have been blessed to have lead her life and her family feels they have been blessed to have had her in theirs. Special thanks go out to Dr. Ernie Johnson, Carmel Hamilton, Janet Bowness, Ester Medalla, and members of the VON and Palliative Care who provided Marion with the greatest of love and care that was so graciously given. Visitation will be held at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Dr., Halifax on Saturday April 23rd from 6 to 8 pm and on Sunday April 24th from 2 to 5pm. Funeral mass and celebration of Marion's life will be held at 10:30 am, Monday April 25th, in Saint Benedict Roman Catholic Church, 45 Radcliffe Dr., Halifax with Father Owen Connelly officiating. Donations in Marion's memory may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Halifax. Please visit: www.jasnowfuneralhome.com

To Mrs. McNeil
Mrs. McNeil, You will always be remembered as the kindest of soles, and the strongest of saints.
When I think of you, I think of all the lunches we had together on Fridays at Sunny Brae Avenue.
Mrs. McNeil, Your family was an extension of my own; you cared and loved me as if I was your own.
Time passed and we have spent so much time apart, I am so deeply sorry for my absence.
I hope that you know that there is sadness in the air, that you’re gone.
There was so much that you had taught me, how to “give “to others, without ever asking in return.
The memory of your smile has wings, that bring me back to happy days at the McNeil home.
To Big D , Maryanne, Ross , and Marie, I have a heavy heart because I had been absent for so long .
I love you all.
Mrs. McNeil, Your loved , Your missed , Your remembered

To Uncle Dugger and our McNeil Cousins, I remember being a scared kid arriving in Halifax by train for a visit and not knowing what to expect. From the moment we met Aunt Marion at the station I felt loved, accepted and embraced as part of the family. She had a special gift for connecting with people. Her zest for life and love of family were contagious. I feel blessed for all the opportunities I had to spend time with this gracious and wonderful woman. My deepest sympathy for your loss. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

My deepest sympathy - Dugger & Family...It is so true that Marion touched many lives, including mine, with such a depth of kindness and understanding.Having shared many conversations with Marion, what I knew for certain was that, Dugger ,you were the love of her life.To her children and grandchildren she simply adored you.Upon listening to Ross when he spoke of those who cared for his mom, during her illness,he said how Marion,s caretakers, even those who did not know her all cared for her as though she was part of their family.Perhaps that was because Marion herself made us feel as though we, her friends were indeed all part of her family .It is difficult to remember Marion without thinking about Dugger.Indeed,BLOSSOMS OF THE RAREST KIND. To Dugger & Family, My thoughts & prayers are with you at this sad time. Marion now knows all the secrets of the universe. I remember her as such a gracious, kind woman with a great laugh. As she was my sister Mary-T's " "fairy" god mother, I remember being very upset at one particular visit when she & Dugger arrived for a evening with Eddie & Shirley; she didn't have "fairy god mother" wings....I'm sure she has a beautiful set of wings now! With fond memories, please accept my deepest condolences.
