Marion Agnew Roddy

Marion Agnew “Pappy” Roddy of Forest Park, GA passed away peacefully on March 4, 2017 at the Sacred Journey Hospice. He was born in Dayton, TN on January 30, 1928 to Richard and Ethel Miller Roddy.
Agnew was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Betty Jo Burton Roddy, six brothers and three sisters. He is survived by his son, Jimmy (Sharon) Roddy of Locust Grove, granddaughter, Jamie (Dan) Dominick and great grandson, Luke Dominick of Locust Grove. He is also survived by his sister, Wanda Marler of Graysville, TN and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Agnew started serving others young in life—he joined the Army and served on Guam as a Staff Sergeant in the Regular Army during World War II. He returned home to start a family and begin his lifelong vocation as a truck driver, retiring as a Teamster of Local 728. He retired from Merico of Forest Park after 28 years. Agnew was raised a Mason in Riverdale Lodge #709 and went on to Scottish Rite and the Yaarab Shrine, where he was dedicated and served for many years. Pappy was known to many as a Commandant of the Shrine Temple—a position he held for 24 years, serving many Potentates loyally.
Pappy Roddy was a generous man to everyone and all his friends will miss him. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Shriner's Hospital for Children or the Masonic Children’s Home.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 7th in our chapel, with Pastor Joey Seabolt officiating. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park in Jonesboro. Visitation will be Monday evening from 4 until 7 p.m. at Donehoo-Lewis Funeral Home, Hapeville. 404-761-2171
