Marjorie Ann Clark Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 15, 2018.
Marjorie Ann (Monke) Clark, 68, of Ankeny, Iowa, went home to be with her Lord on Wednesday, August 15, 2018, after her battle with ALS. Margi was born June 26, 1950 in Ogden, Utah to Earl and Dona Monke, joining her older brother, Bob Monke. She grew up living in California, Oregon, Montana, and Wisconsin. She graduated from Milwaukee Lutheran High School in 1968. Following graduation, she moved to Des Moines, IA. On August 24, 1968, on a blind date to the Iowa State Fair, Margi met the love of her life, Jim Clark. Jim and Margi were married on August 23, 1969 at Gloria De Lutheran Church in Urbandale, IA. They were blessed with their first daughter, Melissa, in April 1972. Two years later, in July 1974, their daughter Rebecca completed their family. In 1981, Jim and Margi moved their family to Mt. Ayr, IA, after purchasing the Allis Chalmers Dealership. While raising their daughters in Mt. Ayr, Margi was very dedicated to her community, her church, and always volunteering in school activities. In 1992, Jim and Margi began a new journey in their lives and moved to Ankeny, IA. For many years Margi worked for Knapp Properties in West Des Moines, IA. She then shared her love for God serving as the secretary at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ankeny until her retirement in June 2016. While making retirement plans with her husband, Margi was diagnosed with ALS in January 2017. Throughout the whole disease Margi never lost her faith and always showed strength in her battle with ALS. With Jim as her caretaker, they battled this disease together until the end. Margi will be remembered for her faith in God, her love for her husband, children and grandchildren. She enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren participate in their activities, being actively involved in her church choir, and her monthly gatherings with her special group of friends. Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 49 years, Jim Clark; daughters Melissa (Jay) Hudecek, and Rebecca Clark-Boersma; grandchildren Clark and Kaitlynn Boersma, Alyson and Jayson Hudecek (all from Ankeny, IA); brother Bob (Jan) Monke (Medford, WI); sister-in-law Linda Buckner (Ankeny, IA); brother-in-law Larry Clark (Fayetteville, NC); nieces Amy (Dave) Snapp, Heidi (Jay) Harrison, Bobbi (Adam) Bentz, Brenda Buckner, and nephews Brandon (Mariah) Buckner and Larry Clark. Margi was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Dona Monke, her in-laws Paul and Lena Clark, and her brother-in-law Ron Buckner, and sister-in-law Peggy Clark. Visitation for Margi will be held on Friday, August 24, from 4-7pm at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 1100 SE Sharon Dr., Ankeny, IA 50021. Funeral services will be held at 10:30am on Saturday, August 25, 2018 at St. Paul Lutheran Church with burial at Ankeny Memorial Gardens. The family wishes to thank the staff at ALS Association of Iowa, Mercy Hospice Des Moines and Mercy Hospice Johnston for all of their support and care they provided Margi. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church, Ankeny, IA, ALS Association of Iowa, or Mercy Hospice Des Moines.
