Marjorie Matchett Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 5, 2008.
MARJORIE JOAN MATCHETT 1922-2008 Marjorie Joan Matchett (nee Smith) beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 3rd, 2008 at the Wascana Rehabilitation Centre, Regina. Born in Northfleet, Kent, England, Marjorie came to Canada in 1945 as a young war bride and settled in Shaunavon with her husband, Garnet Ellis, and young daughter, Joan. In 1948 they moved to Wadena, and in 1951, after the birth of their son, Garnet Peter, the family settled in Nipawin where Garnet was employed with the Saskatchewan Cooperative Creameries. In Nipawin, Marjorie opened a dance school and taught dance there for many years before moving to Lloydminster with her husband where she also opened a dance school. Many former students will recall the fun they had at the annual dance recitals and the many performances they were involved in as students of the Matchett School of Dance. Garnet and Marjorie retired to Victoria, B.C. and returned to Regina in 1987. Predeceased by her beloved husband, Garnet Sr., in 2001, Marjorie will be forever missed by her children Joan (Rolf) Krohn of Saskatoon, Garnet (Marcelle) Matchett of Regina; her grandchildren Michelle (Shane) Weimer, Rolf Garnet Krohn, Christopher (Leeah) Matchett and Danielle Matchett (Allan); six great-grandchildren; Hayden, Cayman, Samuel, Noel, Nicholas, and Jaya. Marjorie will also be missed by her sister Winnifred Pollard, her brothers Roland (Doris) and Sidney (Audrey) Smith, and many nieces and nephews who reside in England. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 8, 2008 at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Royal Canadian Legion, 1820 Cornwall Street, Regina S4P 2K2. An online book of condolences may be signed at www.speersfuneralchapel.com

Dear Garney and Joan,
I loved your Mom very much, she was always so kind and understanding. I'm so grateful for that precious time we had together when she and your Dad lived in Victoria. Much love to you and your family; I know she'll be sadly missed.
Your cousin,
Donna (Keith)
