Ms. Marjorie Saunders

Mrs. Marjorie (Mitchell) Saunders, 85, of Waterbury, entered into eternal rest Saturday, September 10, 2022, at St. Mary's Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was the widow of the late William Ellis Saunders, Sr. Mrs. Saunders was born on October 23, 1936, sharing her birthday with her sister Maude, in Waterbury, CT, a daughter of the late William and Marjorie (Clapp) Mitchell, Sr. Marjorie was educated in the Waterbury public school system. After graduating she began working as a Home Health Aide where she worked for many years throughout the Waterbury community. She was a longtime faithful member of Grace Baptist Church. Marjorie would attend the Mt. Olive A.M.E. Zion Senior Center where she would teach arts and crafts. She was an expert seamstress who made beautiful outfits for family and friends. She loved knitting, crocheting and making floral arrangements and decorations for events throughout the community. Marjorie was a lifetime member of Clock City Temple #895 where she joined in 1979. She held various seats including, Assistant Daughter Ruler, Vice Daughter Ruler, Trustee, Chaplain, Doorkeeper, Past Daughter Ruler and Past State President. She was also a member of the Hospitality Department, Beauty & Talent and the Education Department. She also was First Lieutenant of the Madeline Green Marching Unit and Chairman of Decorations for both the Lodge and Temple. She truly loved her extended Elk family. Marjorie lived a life that touched many people. Her kind heart allowed her to bless others with her ability to share her gift of Motherly love. Her caring affection shown to others beyond her immediate family, allowed her to extend her affections and care to others that she knew needed her loving touch. Whether it was family or friends, she loved children and children loved being with her. Marjorie loved spending time with family and friends sharing stories about the good times she had back in the day. We mourn the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend that always turned into family. Left to cherish her memory and to celebrate her heavenly eternal life, four sons; Trent (Marva) Saunders, Dale "Snake" Saunders, Sr., William "Billy" Saunders and Robert "Robbie" Overstreet all of Waterbury; three daughters, Raquel "Chewy" Overstreet, Michelle "Shelly" Overstreet and Jewel "Tisha" Overstreet all of Waterbury; 33 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; three sisters; Ida Washington of New York, Martha Caesar, Maude Pendarvis both of Waterbury; one brother; Rodney Mitchell of Waterbury; daughter-in-law; Irene Saunders, father of children; Robert Overstreet, Sr. of New Haven; several bonus children, grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends. Marjorie was predeceased by children, Sandra Saunders, Regina Saunders, Ragar Overstreet and Troy Saunders; one great grandson, Danal Rush and three siblings, Kathleen Privott, Wilma Conley, and William Mitchell, Jr.
