Wife, Mother, Caregiver, Gardener

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against such thing.
Galatians 5:22-23

The third Child of Ivan Willis and Emma Mae Lee, Marjorie Lee Stevens was born November 20, 1929 in Austin, Texas. She was a member, from childhood, of Mount Olive Baptist Church, under the leadership of her grandfather, Reverend James Henry (H.) Harrold, the founder. Later, as a young adult, she joined St. James Missionary Baptist Church (the late Reverend E. M. Franklin, Pastor).
Marjorie attended Austin Public Schools and later finished a diploma in Accounting from what was then, Nixon Clay College. She worked during the day at Camp Mabry for General and Mrs. Martin, evenings and weekends, for the family cafés, the Blue Village and The Cheyenne. After leaving the family businesses, Marjorie began her long career at the Fashion Shop and enrolled in evening classes at the Draughon School of Business.
Giving birth in 1951 to her first child, a girl (Helen Valeria), she returned to the family business. She later married James P. Stevens and had her second child, a boy (James P. Stevens, Jr.). Shortly, thereafter, she became a full-time housewife and caregiver to her ailing husband.
Marjorie Stevens was a passionate gardener. It was in her DNA! Her specialties were fruit trees, vegetables, and exotic flowers. Insisting that her husband, children, and other family members should consume food untainted by pesticides, she took correspondence courses to better acquaint herself with the organic and agricultural aspects of her hobby. More than generous with her harvest, this gardener even sent and delivered bags of veggies, with cheerful bouquets to the sick and shut-in neighbors.
This wife, mother, caregiver and gardener is preceded in death by her husband, James P. Stevens, Senior (Steve), her parents, Ivan Willis and Emma Mae Lee, brothers, Robert Lott, Charles E. Lee, Senior, Alfred Lee, Joe Harold, and Ben Harold; Grand-Dogs, Rex and Freedom Stevens, Gershwin and Angel Lee-Khan; Grand-Cat, Saulie Lee-Khan.
Left to carry on her legacy are her daughter, Helen V. Lee-Khan and her devoted son, James P. Stevens, Jr., a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The family would like to acknowledge the excellence in caregiving at the Elgin Nursing and Rehabilitation facility in Elgin, Texas; The doctors, nurses, and staff members at St. David's North Austin Medical Center, Austin Diagnostic Clinic; the doctors, nurses and staff at Satellite Dialysis Clinic. We will forever be grateful to all for providing the best care possible!
We would also like to thank Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home for their professional and compassionate services.
