Marjorie Strother Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Nov. 22 to Nov. 23, 2022.
Marjorie (Mead) Strother, of Clay, New York, passed away suddenly on November 7, 2022. Marjorie grew up in Ilion, New York, with her parents Edgar Mead and Isabel (Thompson) Mead, and brothers Allan and David. She is pre-deceased by her parents and brother, Allan, as well as her longtime partner, Bynum Lee Holtzclaw. Marjorie leaves behind brother (David (Joanne)), her three children: Sheryl Strother (John Puopolo- dec), Jef Strother (Debbie), and Keith Strother (Vickey), three grandchildren, and eleven nieces and nephews. Marjorie is also survived by the father of her children: Robert G. Strother.

Marjorie attended college at S.U.N.Y. Oswego, earning a teaching degree. She and Robert had three children, and the family soon settled in North Syracuse, where she became an elementary school teacher. Marjorie later returned to S.U.N.Y. Oswego to earn her degree in Psychology, becoming a school psychologist for the North Syracuse Central School District, where she worked for many years.

The family enjoyed camping and traveling across the country by car during summer vacations- learning about the National Parks and wonders of the United States. Marjorie's love of travel eventually resulted in her taking trips to numerous countries, including Japan, China, Russia, Denmark, Germany, and Iceland, among others. She enjoyed living in Australia for three months with her longtime partner, Lee.

She loved music and supported that in her children. Marjorie played piano, organ, string bass, and taught herself to play the saxophone at 60! She was a devoted member of Andrews Memorial United Methodist Church and Faith Journey, UMC - serving on numerous committees, creating artwork, teaching Sunday school, and singing in the choirs.

A Celebration of Marjorie's' life will be held at Faith Journey UMC, 8396 Morgan Road, Clay, NY, 13041 on Wednesday, November 30,2022, at 11:00 am with a luncheon to follow. Donations to Faith Journey in lieu of flowers

Marge was one of my "auxiliary moms" from church. She was always patient and kind. And funny! She was one reason I majored in psychology at SU, although I didn't take that career path. I'm sure my mom and dad (and Doris, and Bud, and....) were waiting to welcome her.

Her family was so blessed to call her Mom. Marge was a loving caring friend to many of us. Always a positive influence; we had joyful moments singing and camping. Always trying new things and I can still see her doing cartwheels at Selkirk Shores. She called me often...always a faithful friend. I miss you Marge. Happy you got your wings and are with our Lord! love, Sally

Marge was one of the best. She was one of the church choir Moms that looked out for all of us "kids". Marge knew me from day one, she knew all my names and used them on occasion. I will remember her love and concern for us, her kindness, and her beautiful smile. Always.

I wanted to check "family" because that is how we were back in the day...one big church family. Your Mom´s quick wit made me laugh. Her twinkling eyes and ready smile were so comforting. God bless you all as you grieve her passing. Love and hugs.
