VERMUNT _ Marjorie Isabelle (Mackie) September 3, 1932 - February 7, 2006 The family of Marjorie Vermunt is saddened to announce her passing on February 7, 2006 at the Strathmore Hospital. Marjorie was born in Strathmore to parents Claude and Margaret Mackie and was raised in the Namaka/Strathmore district. She married John Vermunt in 1952 and raised their five children in Gleichen, moving to Strathmore in 1976. Marj was employed for many years at the Strathmore Standard. She was a very involved member of the community, volunteering countless hours of her time to the Hospital Auxiliary, Meals on Wheels, the food bank and blood bank. She was also a member of the UCW, Happy Gang and Royal Purple. Marj and John enjoyed traveling during his retirement and cherished time spent with their kids and grand kids. Marj enjoyed bowling, playing cards at the community centre and socializing with her many friends. Marj was predeceased by her husband John in 1993 and granddaughter Lisa Schiffner in 1995. She is survived by her children, Deb (Rick) of Vancouver Island, Don (Shelley) of Grande Prairie, Darrell (Mona) of Gleichen, Marilyn of Red Deer and Michelle (Jeff) of Calgary. Grandchildren include Ryan Schiffner (Tanya), Jeff Schiffner (Jamie), Meagan, Marcus and Mikayla Vermunt, Lane and Quinn Vermunt, Courtney and Regan Clevett, Jillian, Claire and Evan Mah; three great-grandchildren, Hayden, Austin and Hannah Schiffner. Marj is also survived by two sisters, Mavis Schumann of Strathmore and Claudia (Jr.) Reich of Prince George, B.C. as well as two sisters-in-law, Edna Vermunt of Didsbury and Madeline Keeling of Calgary. A viewing will be held on Sunday, February 12, 2006 at WHEATLAND FUNERAL HOME from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, February 23, 2006 at Strathmore United Church at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made directly to the Strathmore Hospital Auxiliary (200 Brent Boulevard, Strathmore, T1P 1J9) A very warm thank you goes out to the nurses and staff of the Strathmore Hospital for the care Mom received.
