Mark Armstrong Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 23, 2024.
Mark Lee Armstrong, 72, of Danville, CA, passed away peacefully at home on August 9, 2023 after a battle with Parkinson's Disease. Mark will be remembered at a ceremony on April 26, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Isidore's Church, 440 La Gonda Way, Danville, CA.

Mark is survived by his wife, Christine; children Nolan Armstrong and Joanna Walsh; daughter-in-law Cristina (Olivella) Armstrong and son-in-law Kevin Walsh; grandchildren Vincent (13), Reagan (12), Abigail (11), Douglas (10), and Conor (6); father George Armstrong; and brothers Randy Armstrong, Gregg Armstrong, and Scott Armstrong, and sister Sherri Jacksoniak. He is predeceased by his mother, Dolores Armstrong, and nephews, Brendon Armstrong and Matthew Chance.

Mark was born in Berkeley, California on June 19, 1951. He spent his childhood in Walnut Creek and graduated from Los Lomas High School. Mark then attended college at UC Santa Barbara and UC Berkeley, before graduating from law school at Golden Gate University. He enjoyed a successful career as an attorney, practicing for 30-plus years with the Gagen McCoy firm in Danville, CA.

Mark was an avid golfer, skier, and outdoor enthusiast. He was a loyal fan of the Giants, 49ers, and Warriors, often enjoying games in the company of family. He was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and uncle.

Mark will be remembered for many things, but especially for his love and loyalty to family and friends. While Mark struggled with managing Parkinson's in the last years of his life, he did so with incredible grace and dignity. He never complained, nor did he miss an opportunity to attend family gatherings and other activities where he could enjoy the company of those who he loved. He will be deeply missed.

In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions can be made to Friends of the River or The Michael J. Fox Foundation in memory of Mark Lee Armstrong.

Stanislaus River... 1973 ~ first memory of Mark. Chris´s brother Mario, grade school friend, invited me on a trip. It changed my life. That single day with Mark and Chris, Mario and friends ignited an unknown passion for rivers in my heart. Mark and the Armstrong family changed the trajectory of my life! Thank you Mark for your passionate devotion to rivers, youth and family. You have been a shining example of a husband and father. Godspeed....

Mark was my law partner for many years -- he and his family are superb examples of the best of America .. in everything they do and care about.. He was also an excellent attorney -- seeking to strongly represent his clients' best interests while always considering compromise resolution that would get the case to the goal but be sensitive to the financial issues and the personal issues of all.. he was an exemplar also for my own children -- who loved being with him and the All Outdoors gang and Mark's family .. particularly that wonderful wife Christine .. Each of us benefitted from having Mark in our lives and he is still very much with us as we move into the future ..

Mark was one of my cousins. Our families were together quite often. We shared vacations and many river rafting times together. I remember visiting him with my sister when he went to UC. Santa Barbara. He showed us around and we went out to a drive in movie and then slept on the beach. He was always gentle and kind. When I think of him it makes me smile because he was always smiling, gave good advice and always had something nice to say.

His younger brother Scott would organize a Holiday bike ride to the summit of Mt Diablo. After the summit Mark and I were going to return home via the South Gate Road and the others would continue following the North Gate Road. I hadn't met Mark before but I knew of him. I just remember after all these years what an enjoyable time I had on the ride talking with him. It is actually what I remember most about that day.

Our children grew up together, and Mark always added excitement to our family vacations. Whether it be canoeing at Bear in a thunderstorm, riding a ski doo at night, or swimming under a Hawaiian waterfall, everyone loved his sense of adventure. Mark will be dearly missed by the "Reading Place Gang".

Mark and I were both born in 1951. His family was in the River Rafting business and he joined the group at least one of the two times that I went River rafting down the American River. I remember him as a nice man, dedicated to family, a hard worker as an attorney and devoted to Christine. It is such a tragedy when you lose a spouse or a child that takes years to begin to overcome. Sincerely, Harry Olivieri

Christine introduced me to Mark a couple of years before they were married.
It was easy to see that Mark was an outdoors man who loved River Rafting, Golf, Swimming and maybe even Tennis. I remember the time Christine invited me to Marks home before they were married ,Mark had quite a collection of reptiles in his bedroom, all in cage of course which reflected his love of nature.
Mark will be missed and remembered by many.
