Mark Garrett Burnett

1952 ~ 2021

Mark Garrett Burnett, 68, passed away on January 23rd, 2021. Preceded in death by his father J Reid Burnett, his mother Verna Mae Burnett, and brother Gregory Dean Burnett.

Mark was born in Schenectady, New York on August 31, 1952. He had a love for sports and music that started at a young age. He spent countless hours playing basketball, racquetball, and tennis. He loved anything that was fast paced. He was passionate about watching his favorite teams as well. He loved BYU Football and the Utah Jazz. Dad had two rules, never late for church, never late for golf. He had to give up many sports as he got older due to several knee surgeries. Golf eventually became his only sport but he loved playing it the most. It provided the opportunity to spend time with his children and brothers.

Singing and playing the violin were his two favorite musical interests. He sang many solos and duets in church and was a regular member of the ward choir. He sang the first dance song at all his children's weddings. For many years he sang a cappella "The Christmas Song" at the Burnett Christmas party.

Dad was an active member in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He had several callings that he enjoyed and magnified. He served a mission in Southern California. After his mission, he moved to UT to attend BYU where he met Patricia Walsh. They were sealed in the Temple on April 10, 1975 and had three children together. They later divorced.

Dad loved to tinker around the house and yard. He could often be found doing a project and was always willing to spend his time helping others. This included several renovations and home projects for his children. He had a gift of making others laugh with his jokes and wit. He enjoyed being the MC at parties and always having a good time.

Dad spent much of his later years watching his grandchildren play sports, dance, and participate in plays. Dad's voice was never questioned in the cheering section. He had one level, loud. His grandchildren will greatly miss Papa Mark.

Mark is survived by his four siblings Jay (Lori), Doug (Patti), Ann (Don), and Lori (Craig), his three children Ken, Garrett (Lora), and Jill (Jeremy), his ten grandchildren Zach, Jordan, Hailey, Morgan, Macey, Greyson, Eli, Tanner, Addie, and Ashton.

Funeral services will be held Friday, January 29 at 11 a.m. at Anderson & Goff Mortuary, 11859 South 700 East, Draper, with a viewing one hour prior to the services. Interment, American Fork City Cemetery.

Please follow the Covid-19 guidelines and wear masks. A link to the video recording of the services will be posted to the Goff Mortuary website (www.goffmortuary.com) following the services. -
