I have many fond memories of Mark . He was a brilliant banker and businessman .
He coined the expression " directionally correct" which I have used countless times . He also knew when business patterns were repeating and what the result would be . He called those times , " the silly season."
I'm glad to have known Mark and the privilege of working with him .

My condolences to the family of Mark Garrigus, a quiet, gentle, and studious classmate from University High School in Urbana, Illinois. I talked with Mark and met Nancy at his mother's memorial service at Clark-Lindsey retirement home. Mark's genuine friendliness and affable manner set all those who met him at ease. Prayers for his services in the next world.

My condolences to Mark's family. I knew Mark from First Chicago. As many have related the first word you would use in describing Mark is "gentleman." I had occasion over the past fifteen years to talk to Mark from time to time and each time, he would make a special effort to commend me for something that I had managed to impress him with over the short time I worked with him in 1990. I also wanted to share with you the testimonial of another First Chicagoan whom I had informed of Mark's passing: "Steve thank you so much for letting me know. What a tragedy. I am in shock. I always viewed Mark as an unusually special person, very insightful, thoughtful and always gracious. At one point in my career he reached out to me unsolicited and helped me navigate an extremely difficult situation. I was eternally grateful; it could have turned out differently without his help."

Dear Nancy, Anne, and Dave
With deepest sympathy we are deeply saddened by the passing of cousin Mark. We roamed the farm in Plainville each summer when Uncle Uppy and Aunt Olive visited Grama and Granpa Tyler.
Beth and Mark, The Vermont Beans, the New York Tyler's, Ellen and me would all join the rest of the families for the big picnic in the five acre lot on the farm. We all grew up yet stayed in touch thru the years. Mark will be missed.

Mark helped me significantly in my career at First Chicago and at Cole Taylor, but, more than that, he was a very nice and thoughtful friend. Our sons were almost the exact age and we compared "notes" over 30 years as they grew up too. I know how crazy he was about his grandchildren and I am sorry that he will not have the joy of seeing them grow up, and they will certainly miss him as well. Nancy, David, and Anne, I hope your wonderful memories will bring you continued comfort. I will miss Mark, and my thoughts are with you all. Joan Winstein (First Chicago colleague)

What sad news. Of all the people one encounters in life very few can be described as gentlemen. Mark was a true gentlman. Our world needs more like him.
