Mark Green Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 3, 2022.
Mark L. Green, 60, formerly of Barrington, Illinois, passed away on April 22, 2022. Born in Whidbey Island, Washington on October 20, 1961, Mark was the son of Richard ("Dick") and Mary Javaine Green. Because of his father's military career, Mark grew up in numerous places around the United States, including stints Virginia, Maine, Florida, and California.
A graduate of Bonita Vista High School in California, Mark attended college at the University of California Los Angeles on an ROTC scholarship. He was a member of Theta Xi fraternity and earned a degree in political science. Upon graduation he was commissioned as an ensign in the U.S. Navy and served four years of active duty, at one time being stationed aboard the USS Vincennes, a guided missile cruiser. He was honorably discharged at the rank of lieutenant.
Following his military service, Mark met his future wife, Mindi Russell, while living in San Diego, California. They married in 1995, and shortly thereafter moved to Atlanta, Georgia, where their first child was born in 1998. The family then moved to Barrington, Illinois, where they had their second child in 2000.
For years, Mark enjoyed a successful career in software sales and management, but the highlight of his work life was building, owning, and managing Wool Street Grill & Sports Bar, which became a favorite gathering place in Barrington. It was here where Mark's irrepressible spirit and love of his community were always on display. He thrived on giving back, whether through sponsoring youth sports teams or hosting local events at Wool Street. He prided himself on taking care of his staff and making friends with everyone. An avid sports fan, he had a competitive spirit and loved watching football-especially his beloved Washington Redskins.
In his leisure time, Mark enjoyed playing basketball with friends, working on and riding motorcycles, boating, and relaxing on the dock at his vacation home on Delavan Lake, Wisconsin. Those lucky enough to visit the family's lake house remember how Mark loved taking his kids and other friends on nighttime boat cruises and showing them how to navigate by the stars.
A devoted dad, Mark always supported his kids' youth activities, whether it was Latin club, lacrosse, or football. He also adored his extended family and delighted in reminiscing and sharing stories about relatives. A loyal friend with a big heart, he will be remembered for his infectious smile, boisterous laugh, and full-body hugs.
Mark is survived by his two sons, Lyle Green of Montpelier, Vermont, and Zach Green of Barrington; his mother, Mary Green of Barrington; his former wife, Mindi Green of Barrington; his brother and sister-in-law, Brad and Jennifer Green of Dunwoody, Georgia; three nieces, one nephew, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father in 1998. In lieu of flowers, those who wish to honor Mark may donate to their favorite charity.

Mark had a very robust laugh and was a great host at Wool Street. Not sure how he died, but 60 is way too young.

Mark was an incredible person who I was lucky enough to befriend at Theta Xi, UCLA. Mark was truly larger than life and a force to behold in our college days. Our adventures in his "big blue van" to Palm Springs were legendary. I miss him so much, Rob Maitland AZ832
