Mark's remarkable legacy, complete with loving friends and family, will become a testament to a life well lived. As a classmate of Mark at both Thorpe Junior High and Hampton High Schools, I will always remember his affable nature and kind heart. He will remain an inspiration, which will hopefully provide comfort to his many loved ones.

I was so saddened to learn of Mark's untimely passing. He surely had many friends and co-workers who loved and respected him. I worked with Mark's mother at Booker School and remember fondly how lovingly she spoke of her boys. You, Nancy, took over my 5th grade classroom for a few weeks in the fall of 1976. My heart goes out to you and your children.

I am very sorry for your loss. You have my deepest regrets. I was SSA Area Director for Virginia in the mid '80s. I have great memories of Mark when he was an OS in Norfolk and when he was a member of my staff. Mark was simply an all around great guy.

I had the honor and pleasure to work with Mark over the years. His professionalism, humor, and trademark smile made even difficult issues easier to handle. Susan and I were saddened to hear of a good life taken too soon. A lifetime ago, two brothers, Mark and Tommy, were good friends to two Edmonds brothers, Gene and Hartley. The good seem to leave us too quickly. May the Lassiter family find peace in remembering Mark.

I worked with Mark on occasion in recent years, and although I didn't know him on a personal level, I always appreciated his genuine nature and professionalism. Unfortunately I can't say much about who Mark was, but I can tell you quite a bit about who he wasn't. He wasn't pretentious or difficult. He wasn't hard to work with or unappreciative in demeanor. He wasn't insincere with his words or affected in his manner. Mark always struck me as a talented and unassuming man, who was genuinely committed to his country and whose laid-back delivery of the "story of the day" almost fooled you into thinking he wasn't a step ahead of you. Mark earned your respect & approval without ever giving you the impression that he really needed it. Mark always struck me as a good man, and when everything is said and done, isn't that what matters most?

I worked with Mark when he was first hired in the Portsmouth office and also as a member of the Area 6 management team. I remember his smile and kindness most of all. He was one of my favorite co-workers. I pray God provides comfort and strength to his family.

I was one of Mark’s instructors when he began his career with the Social Security Administration. We both changed job locations many times over the years but frequently crossed paths and remained friends. I last saw Mark when I was working at the SSA office in Midlothian, VA. He always greeted me with that smile. I still have a photograph taken so many years ago of Mark with the class and instructors. I can still see his smile in that photograph. I was surprised to find he has left us so soon. He spent his life helping others. He did his job well and I am proud of him for that. To Mark’s family I wish to express my deepest sympathy. May Our Lord, Jesus Christ, be with you now and remain with you always.

I'm very sorry to learn of Mark's passing. Although I hadn't seen Mark or Nancy since college days, as a fraternity brother we shared a solid bond and would have had no problems reconnecting. Words cannot express the sadness in the neighborhood. Mark was such a special man. We have great memories of the many get-togethers the neighbors had. I haven't seen Mark since our days of carpooling to Norfolk in his little green midget. Such fun we had! I remember the day his first child was born and had to leave work and I had to drive he was so nervous. Although we haven't been in touch I'm certain he was a great man and father. I haven't seen Mark for many years, but I have seen Tommy several times since our youth when he visited his mother here in Hampton. Tommy and Mark were part of Central UMC's MYF back in our youth and we all went to Sunday School together. I have many fond memories of those days.
