I happened to be thinking of Mr. McDunn, my trumpet teacher throughout high school and for two years at DePaul University, and found this page as we approach the 20th anniversary of his passing.
Though I did not continue to be a professional musician, his passion for learning by watching others, for focusing on technical detail and his spirited approach to work influenced me for the next 40 years as I worked in broadcasting and media, and earned a master's degree.
He was one of the most influential people in my life. I wish I could thank him today for all I learned from him. Yeah, Daddy.

Mark's book "Brass Wind Artistry" has guided much of my playing and trombone teaching. I picked up the trombone after he'd retired from teaching. Your family should be proud of his impact on the world and the legacy he's left behind.

I wish to express my condolences to the McDunn Family on the passing of Mark. I studied trombone with Mr. McDunn for seven years as an undergraduate and a graduate music education student at De Paul University in the mid-70's and mid-80's. I consider him a mentor and I use every day in my professional music career principles which he taught me about music and life. May God bless him and keep him and his family. I know that I was blessed to know him.

Our sincere sympathy to Mark's family. Mark McDunn was our first trombone instructor at the University of Wisconsin-Indianhead Arts and Education Center in Shell Lake, Wisconsin. He was a great instructor, wonderful man, and a rold model for our son. We were greatly Blessed by knowing Mark McDunn

Mark McDunn was my trumpet teacher for several years, while I was in junior high and high school. His influence and support have been valuable to me in all areas of life. He was an instructive and caring mentor, a wonderful character, and a fine friend.

Mr. McDunn was my private trumpet instructor for 3 years in high school and college. His sense of humor and dedication to his students
is fondly remembered by those of us lucky to have known him.

I just wanted to once again express my sense of loss with the passing of Mark McDunn. He played such an influential role in the life of my daughter, Cara McCauley, that words aren't enough to express my gratitude. He instilled a sense of pride and inspiration in her at a time in her life that she was feeling bleak and hopeless. The one thing she truly looked forward to was her weekly trumpet lesson -- not only for the instruction but to listen to Mark tell his stories and work his magic. We have lost one of the great ones. May God bless him and his family.
