I loved Gene and Lois and they were so kind to me, always. Lois and I taught together at the Child Study Center. And I knew Gene from church in Auburn.
I was sad to read of Gene“s passing, but I am delighted to read his obituary and learn what a full life he lead in his later years.
To the children and grandchildren, you were lucky to have this loving man in your life! He was a delight.

It was an honor and a privilege for Ayal and I to have become friends with and to Gene. He exuded a gentleness mixed with a sly wit - always ready to speak a kind word, tease with joke, and to offer a hug. I loved the many, many walks in downtown Charleston that he and I went on several years ago. I was always moved in how Gene always inquired after my wife, Ayal, and how he always wanted to make sure that I would give her his warmest regards. He was a true gentleman, scholar and he will be sorely missed. Hawk Hurst

We have such good memories of our friendship with Gene. He had a great sense of humor and wit. I will never forget the camping trip with Gene and his son Tim who is one of our very best friends on the Roan Highlands AT. When we arrived back at our house, Linda had fixed lasagna which he often spoke of how wonderful that meal was after that long hike! Our thoughts and prayers are with the family as we remember this remarkable person who made such a difference in our world.
