Mark Pizzo Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 11, 2023.

Mark Anthony Pizzo,  (‘Schultzie’), of Palm Coast, passed away unexpectedly at UF Health in Jacksonville on Tuesday February 7, 2023. He was 55 years young.  Born in Meadowbrook Pennsylvania on August 2nd, 1967, Mark was the youngest of four children of Harold ‘Zeke’ and Margaret Pizzo. He was a lifelong community member of Bucks County Pennsylvania before retiring to Palm Coast in 2020 with his wife Jennifer.

Mark leaves behind a trail of broken hearts, including his loving wife Jennifer (nee Mann), his adoring mother Margaret Pizzo (Booth) of Bensalem, his devoted and loyal siblings, Peggy Pizzo-Karpinksi (Joseph), of Bensalem PA, Maria Morano (Christopher) of Langhorne PA and Michael Pizzo (Michelle), of Harleysville PA.; adoring sister-in law Kathleen Phillips (Bob) of East Palatka FL, loyal brother in law William Mann (Debra),  of East Patalka FL as well as many nieces and nephews; Douglas Harts, Michael Pizzo Jr, Morgan Pizzo Lyons, Matthew Pizzo , Christopher Morano, Marissa Morano,  Madelyn Harts, Jennifer Dietz, Jessica Phillips, Zoie Phillips and William Mann V.  Mark is also survived by many cousins, aunts and uncles. Mark is predeceased by his father, Harold Zeke Pizzo, and his uncle Joe Pizzo, who both left this life in 2016.

An avid sports enthusiast, Mark excelled in anything athletic.  This gentle giant with deep soft blue eyes was a beast on the football field and a warrior on the wrestling mat.  Growing up in Bensalem, Mark attended Conwell Egan Catholic High School, where he was a dominating two-sport athlete earning multiple awards in both football and wrestling. In 1983, Mark was named 1st team All Catholic, 1st team All City & 1st BCCT Golden 11 as a defensive lineman for football. That same year Mark was named The Philadelphia Catholic League Wrestling Heavyweight Champion, and was a varsity member of the 1984 Philadelphia Catholic Wrestling Championship Team.

In Mark's senior year, he was again named 1st team All Catholic, 1st team All City, 1st BCCT Golden 11 and the Philadelphia Inquirer All- Area.  His senior year he was named to the AP Pennsylvania Football Writers Association 1st Team Defense, and finally was elected to the Pennsylvania Big 33 where he helped Pennsylvania defeat Maryland. Mark’s senior year of wrestling also brought many more awards and recognitions, where he repeated as the PCL Heavyweight Wrestling Champion and taking home the BCCT 1st team Golden Big 12. He earned the 3rd place medal in the prestigious National Prep Championships, helping to propel his team to a 3rd place finish in the National Team Championships. Mark's exceptional athletic talents caught the eye of several Division 1 colleges.  He accepted a full athletic scholarship to the University of Maryland, College Park, and was a member of the 1985 Atlantic Coast Conference Football Championship Team.  In 2017 Mark was inducted into the Conwell Egan Catholic Hall of Fame for both football and wrestling.

After college Mark worked for the Bucks County Water and Sewer Authority, where he worked for over 30 years, retiring as the Director of Operations in 2019.

Mark met his wife Jennifer in 1999, they married in 2005 and resided in Feasterville, PA.  They were the proud and doting pet parents of 5 year old Tucker, 4 year old Harley, 10 year old Kaz and 7 year old Jinx.  Mark enjoyed traveling, boating, golf, cruises, trips to the beach, crab boils, the great outdoors and of course college football.  Above all he was a family man who wanted nothing more than to be at home with his family and his pets.

Everyone who knew Mark described him as a ‘gentle giant’. He was kind, he was loving, he was generous, and he didn’t meet a stranger. Mark was a man you could count on, and the world is a darker place without him.

A celebration of life memorial service will be held on Monday, February 13,th 2023, at 6:00 pm at Clymer Funeral Home in Palm Coast. A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. before the service.

Markie Mark, you were one of my favorite people! You have always been such an important member of our family. I miss you so much, but I know that you are here with us in spirit. Thank you for being such an amazing brother in law, and the best uncle to Zoie and Jess. I love you, forever and ever!

Mark was a gentle giant. He was always smiling and made everyone smile in return. The world is a darker place without his light.

I worked with Mark for 18 years. He was kind, supportive and I hope he considered me a friend. I always looked forward to his warm smile and genuine concern about how my day was going. I am so happy I had the privilege of working and knowing Mark. A special man.

I played football with Mark at Maryland & met up with him later at Del Val in the 80's. . Mark was a good friend, a gentle giant and a fierce competitor. Although I haven't spoken to Mark in a while, I miss our conversations & the world was a better place with him. I am very sorry to hear this. Mark & his family are in my thoughts and prayers.
Be well old friend.
