Mark Sheets Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 20, 2025.
Mark Joseph Sheets, 71, passed away on January 1, 2025, in Dayton, Ohio. Born on March 17, 1953, in Dayton, he spent his life dedicated to his family, faith, and career.

Mark received his early education at Holy Family Primary School before attending Chaminade High School. He later pursued higher education at Wright State University. His professional journey spanned decades, beginning with a 29-year tenure as a manager at Elder-Beerman. After retiring from that role, he continued his career at Wright State University, where he served as the supervisor of the Wright School of Medicine's courier services for 13 years and later worked in the Human Resources department for four years before retiring in 2016.

A devout Catholic, Mark had a deep love for his faith and was actively involved in his parish. He served as a lector, Eucharistic minister, and choir member for many years. His devotion extended beyond his local church; he was a Fourth Degree Knight in Council 815 and had a profound reverence for Mother Mary. His passion for Catholicism led him to travel frequently to Rome, Italy, where he visited St. Peter's Basilica and many other basilicas throughout the city.

Mark found great joy in gardening, traveling, and reading. Whether tending to his garden or exploring new destinations, he embraced life with enthusiasm. His love for travel was especially evident in his pilgrimages to religious sites that deepened his spiritual connection.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 27 years, Patricia; sons Jayson (Tabitha) Barrett, Anthony (Shelia) Barrett, and Kristopher Barrett; granddaughters Alexxis Barrett, Alexandrea Barrett, and Taylor Barrett; siblings Mary Atsina, Amy Gray, and Christopher Sheets. He was preceded in death by his parents, John W. Sheets and Lucy C. Sheets, as well as his brother Thomas Michael Sheets.

Mark's life will be honored with a visitation on April 25, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Immaculate Conception Church (2300 S. Smithville Rd., Dayton, OH 45420), followed by a Memorial Mass at the same location from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Friends and family are invited to come together to celebrate his life.

Mark will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His unwavering faith, dedication to family, and love for life leave behind a legacy that will be cherished forever.

Pat and Family - we at WSU HR were shocked to learn today of Mark's passing. He was always so friendly and helpful to everyone, and always willing to drop what he was doing to help out. I was actually thinking of him a few weeks back, when I couldn't find his delicious recipe for chicken and noodles. He was always so courteous, and a real gentleman. It always made me smile when he would speak of you, and refer to you not by your name, but as "my bride". He was definitely one of a kind, and we will remember him fondly.
