Mark Southworth Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 6, 2025.
A ray of sunshine and a face full of smiles left us on August 3, 2025. Mark Scott Southworth passed away at home after a brief, serious illness. Mark was born on April 1, 1959, to Warren Alexander and Mary Virginia Southworth. He grew up in Lakeside (Henrico County). He was a happy boy, attending elementary school and loving life. During this time, he had an infection which was treated with antibiotics. He had a severe reaction which left him nearly deaf and with some brain injury. He was not deterred! Mark learned to live with his disabilities and progress through school. He did not like litter- often seen picking up bottles and cans discarded by drivers along lakeside Avenue, helping to keep the area beautiful. He loved cats and adopted any stray he found. Sitting around a fire pit with family and friends was a favorite pass-time. After the death of his parents, Mark lived with his sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Richard Clarke. Linda and Richard embraced Mark and showed him the excitement of traveling around the state and across the country, visiting every sight to see along the way! He also visited every state park in Virginia, learning to appreciate the beauty of the outdoors, rivers, oceans, fishing, and piers. He was truly happy and smiling most of the time, especially when family and friends surrounded him. Mark loved Mexican food, the occasional margarita, just picked crabs and crabcakes. He liked to play games at the casino and usually won. Best of all, he loved people, was a loving son, brother, uncle, cousin, and brother-in-law. He had a heart of gold, full of love for people and animals.

He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Waren and Mary Southworth, his best friend and sister Linda Southworth Clarke, who passed away just over a year ago. Mouring his loss are his nephew and niece, Scott and Kameron Clarke, his brother-in- law Richard Clarke, and his cousins. Many other family members and friends will miss him, including his best travel buddies, Bruce and Bonnie Clarke and Bettie McGarry. A graveside service will be held on Monday August 11, 2025, at 11am at Forest Lawn Cemetery located at 4000 Pilots Ln, Richmond, VA 23222.
