Mark Tornheim Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 8, 2023.
On Saturday, January 21, Mark Tornheima beloved husband, father, and grandfatherpassed away. He was 82. Born to William and Dorothy Tornheim in Chicago, he was known for his abiding kindness. After completing a degree in political science at San Francisco State University, he started a 35 year career as a real estate appraiser at Alameda County Assessor's Office, where he was an esteemed leader of his union. In 1978, he met the love of his life, Bonnie, with whom he raised two children, Lisa and Jeffrey, in Walnut Creek. They were together for nearly 45 years. As part of his enduring commitment to service, Mark was an active participant in numerous political campaigns on behalf of the Democratic Party and in his longtime congregation, B'nai Tikvah. His grandchildren were his joy. Memorial contributions may be directed to the American Heart Association.

Bonnie, I just learned on Mark's passing. We did not stay in touch after I left the Assessor's but I was very fond on Mark while we worked together and always had great respect for him especially for his work on behalf of others while working as a union representative. We also shared a background in Pittsburg. I was very sorry to hear of your loss. Sincerely, John Boring

Bonnie, I am thinking about all the happy times we shared together with you and Mark. It doesn't seem possible that he is gone and I am so very sorry. I know the joy that he brought to you Bonnie, the love of your life and to your wonderful children and grandchildren and extended family. You have an incredible family, a life filled with love and hope that gives you some comfort. Love, Barbara
