I grew up with Markie attending the same schools from grade school through high school! Our farms were just across the field from each other! Markie was always so much fun to be with and I enjoyed slumber parties at her house, where the Peterson family treated me like family! One memory is when the Peterson kiddos would come to the Nelson farm and we would go upstairs in the barn and swing from ropes and jump into the hay bales below! I love the photo of Markie as a kid because that is how I remember her! RIP Markie!

I met Markie somewhere sometime on the Hill and interacted with forever. Being a "regular " at the Tune Inn, especially for breakfast after retirement, I saw her frequently for years. Always pithy, she was warm in her own way. She will be missed!

I met Markie in 1995 at the American Legion, where she ran things. She took me under her wing. Really enjoyed our trips out to Charles Town, WV casino, where she was a regular (on the nickel slots.) Wonderful memories and great times.....I will always remember the expression on her face when I gave her a Ted Williams autographed baseball, for her birthday, years ago. SHe loved Teddy Baseball and her SOX....

My Dad took me to Washington DC around 1993 or 1994. Aunt Markie took me on a tour of the capital. Showed me the marble bath tubs in the underground area. Then she introduced me to Baseball Bill and I learned of the legendary spaghetti that stuck to the wall of the bar for a week.

One of my first to mind memories was running together, in the dark, near her home. I ran into a barbed-wire fence, which set us off into a real laughing fit! It had cut my leg but being with Markie, of course, we laughed!
She had such a wonderful sense of humor! I always loved being with her when we were kids! Sadly, we didn't see each other much as adults. She will always be there in our memories.
