Marla Oakes

To the family of Dr. Oakes,
My heart goes out to you for the loss of your wife, mother and freind.
Marla was my principal at Sugar Creek Charter School in Charlotte, NC from 1999-2000. I enjoyed and respected her very much and she will be sadly missed.

I met Dr. Oakes in 1999 when she became principal of Sugar Creek Charter School. It was such a joy to work with her! I just received the information today regarding her passing. She was not only my principal, but she also did my house blessing in 2001. My heart goes out to family, friends, and colleagues. She will greatly be missed.

It was with great sadness when I learned of the passing of Marla. In our last conversation, you mentioned her illness. I prayed for her then as I pray for you and your family now. LaShawn and I send our deepest condolences.

To the Oakes Family
I will miss our morning discussions and her warm smile. I pray that God provides strength, peace and comfort to your family during this time. Love - Co-worker and friend.

We give thanks to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for allowing us to travel along Marla's path. We didn't speak often, yet we felt her warmth everytime our paths crossed. Knowing Marla was a wonderful blessing! While we have lost a another Jewel, we know the Father has another angel at His side. We extend our sympathy and love to the family. We'll miss you Marla!!!

My deepest condolences to the family...I will always remember everything I learned while working with Dr. Oakes...she was and will always be an inspiration to me. Her legacy will live on forever in each and every school district she touched. I will forever remember her smile!

Please accept my condolences for your loss. Although I worked with Marla for a very short time, I knew of her dedication to students who had very special needs.

To Vernon, Danielle and the Entire Oakes Family:
Marla and I bonded as friends during the season of the Revelation Bible Study Class at Shiloh Baptist Church in Washington, DC. Her love and reverential awe for God's Word became so evident that when I found myself in need of a co-teacher for a short season, Marla not only stepped to the plate but carried the Revelation Bible study sessions to new heights under the Spirit's anointing! Many were the Biblical paradigms we shared during some of her most difficult days that kept us both looking up! I praise God for her life and will dearly miss my sister in Jesus!

Marla and I have been close friends since she and her children came to Shiloh in the late 1980s. We have supported each other in many of life's situations throughout our friendship.

I will deeply miss her and the special memories that came out of this friendship, her deep love for her family and friends, her beautiful spirit, and the shining inner light that was hers alone.

My prayers and love go out to her children and family right now. And may the reassuring thought that she is now with our Heavenly Father at peace and in no pain comfort them now and going forward.

I am saddened to learn of Marla's transistion. I have known and loved her a rather long time (since the late 80's). I will surely miss seeing her smiling, happy face around the church and at our various meetings. We were Red Hat Sisters and members of several of the same committee. Working with Marla was always a joy and a learning experience. Please accept my deepest condolences in this time of you grief. May God ever be your guide and protector now and evermore.

I have known Dr. Oakes since a child. She was a loving and warm person. I have been blessed to have her as a teacher, mentor, Principal and later, co-worker. Her enthusiasm and love of all children will be sorely missed. To Mr. Oakes, Phillip, Danielle and Daphne, know that your wife and mother was loved by everyone she came in contact with. I will keep you in my prayers.

Danielle and family, there aren't enough words to let you know how sad we are with your Mom's passing. Marla was not only a friend but my Red Hat sister. I have known Marla for a very short time but she truly was a loving and dedicated individual. She always wanted what was best for the students. I realize that this time is heartbreaking but know that God has prepared a special place just for her. She will be deeply missed and I pray that God hold each of you in the palm of his hands.
