Marlene Gamlin Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 28, 2025.
Marlene (Goodrich) Gamlin, of North Hampton, New Hampshire, passed away on September 27, 2025. She was born on July 28, 1939, in Groveland, Massachusetts, the beloved daughter of Edna (McCormick) Zinck and Demont Goodrich.

She grew up in Newburyport, Massachusetts, where she attended local schools and developed her lifelong love of dancing and performing. From an early age, she trained in tap and acrobatics, performing throughout her pre-teen and teenage years. Dancing remained her greatest passion-second only to the love of her family.

As a young woman, she worked alongside her mother at Edna's Restaurant, helping to run the family business with the warmth and hospitality she carried throughout her life. She also had a mischievous and adventurous spirit, fondly remembered for driving fast in her convertible through the streets of Newburyport-once side-swiping a mayonnaise truck and even having a stranger attempt to jump in during a joyride with friends.

Marlene was a natural homemaker, happiest when cooking and feeding others. Her kitchen was a place of comfort, joy, and delicious food. Her spaghetti and meatballs became legendary among family and friends.

Her greatest calling, however, was as a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She devoted her life to her family and to caring for her husband, Bob, who predeceased her after nearly 50 years of marriage. Together they raised their children: son Richard and his wife Susan, son David and his wife Stephanie, and daughter Michelle and her husband Michael.

She was also predeceased by her brother, Ronald Goodrich, and cousins Jane and Joyce, with whom she shared a very close bond.

She is survived by her adored grandchildren-Katherine and her husband David, Kelly and her husband Nick, Camden, Elizabeth, and Emily-as well as two great-grandchildren, Wyatt and Noah, who always brought a bright smile to her face.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Harborside Hospice in Newburyport, MA.

RIP Marlene. I am so glad to have known you, from the very first day we met sipping wine on my front porch at 269 and becoming fast friends. You were always so welcoming and funny, and I loved listening to your many stories-from the hilarious ones that made me laugh to the serious ones about spirits and ghosts that made me a true believer. I especially enjoyed hearing the tales about your mom, Edna, and her restaurant.
Your son, Rick, always told me you were a fabulous cook, and I will forever regret not getting to taste your famous sauce and meatballs. I will cherish the memory of our visits, whether we were sharing "cauffee" in your kitchen or sitting on the beautiful enclosed porch that Rick built for you, listening to stories about your life, antics, and family. I´ll never forget the laughter, especially when you´d share one of your "feisty" comments and "no holds barred" opinions, which I always found to be part of your unique charm. You were a special lady, and I will treasure the time we spent together. You will be deeply missed by family and friends, but I find comfort in knowing that you are at peace, reunited with Edna and your cousin Joyce.
Lottsa love, Marlene!
xx/oo Bob
