Marta BLOM Obituary

Published by Monteal Gazette from Aug. 6 to Aug. 10, 2016.
BLOM, Marta Valerite (nee Mamen)
1947 – 2016
As community and family support have turned our anger and devastation into sadness and peace, we report that Marta Valerite Mamen Blom died on July 29, 2016 of complications with an aggressive neuroendocrine tumour. First operated on in France while vacationing in May, her subsequent fight in Montreal was quick and unequal. The daughter of Chris and Mabel Mamen of Saint Sauveur, QC, Marta is survived by her husband of 45 years, Frans Blom; her children Kirsti (Duncan Reid), Taryn (David Bilcock) and Randall (Kerry Freek); and grandchildren Dominic, Simone, Thea, Isla and Priya. She is also survived by her siblings Anitra, Rolf, Julie, Gordon and Lauritz. Marta was happiest with her family around her. She was an engaged parent who encouraged her children and others to do their best and shine. Happily living in Europe for years, she led her children by example in learning their father's Dutch culture and language. A lively woman and committed grandmother, leaving her central place has caused a huge hole. Her warmth, generosity and her smile will be sorely missed. Marta died with her children present and has been cremated. A Memorial Service will be held at the Mount Royal Funeral Complex, 1297 Chemin de la Forêt, Outremont, H2V 2P9 on August 12, 2016 at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers a donation to the Plan International Canada Fund or the CAMH Foundation will be appreciated.

Dear Frans,
It was with disbelief and a heavy heart seeing the name Marta Blom in today's Globe and Mail. Just a few days ago, while working in our garden, we reminisced about wonderful neighbours on Munro Park Ave. and spoke of you and Marta so lovingly restoring your home and garden across the road from us. It is with profound sadness that we send our deepest condolences to you, your children and family at this terribly sad time.

For Frans: What a shock to open the Globe Sports section this morning to see a photo of Marta and read of her untimely death! We are stricken by this turn of events, and send you and all your family our heartfelt sympathy. It has been a while since we have been in touch, but we remember you often as we pass by your old Benlamond Avenue home. Our prayers are with you in these dark days.
