Miss you still, my dear Martha. Ten years gone and it still feels like I was with you yesterday. I will always wonder, always ache. You left me so many happy memories too. My love for you will never, ever, end.

Dear Bernie,
I am so sorry to hear of Martha's passing. She was so bright and open when we met you both in Indiana. I remember how she made all of my family feel so welcomed and apprecated when we all shared Thanksgiving together this last season.
My deepest sympathy to you and to all of the many others who she loved.......Randy

Dear Bernie,
I knew Martha from a San Francisco women's group for quite a few years. As we had several Marthas, we called her "Little Martha". She will be missed. I am very sorry for your loss.
Sincerely, Betsy Portaro

Dear Bernie,
Martha and I worked together at Sequoia Hospital ADRC. I was program director, she pre-treatment specialist. One of my favorite memories of Martha was standing across the hallway during the earthquake (1989?), both of us hanging on to the doorjams looking at each other - you know, those moments of really not knowing what was going to happen next.
I always appreciated her sense of humor and although sometimes she vibrated at a very high intensity (like a little bird, I sometimes though), we had many moments of laughing and commiserating as she artfully encouraged people to take the leap into recovery.
May there be peace in your heart. I am sorry for your loss.
With Kindness,
Anthony T Murray

Dear Bernie--Billi just called with news of Martha. I am utterly shocked and devastated. My memories of Martha go back 33 years...my God...back to the Marin YWCA, back to mint julep summers on the backporch of Dennis' studio on Corte Madera slough, back to Calistoga and parties in the vineyards, back, back, back. I missed Martha the moment I moved away, and I'll always miss Martha. My best to you, Bernie, whom I never knew. Maybe someday we'll meet...and not talk politics!
