I missed Monday's show but viewed your loving tribute to your mother.
She has an infectious sense of humour. I watched only limited viewings of your first show series and came to really know your mom. I haven't missed a one of your new series and have many of your holiday themed ones on tape. She taught you well and was an ever shining beacon of light to all she
graced with her presence -- family and stranger alike. I have downloaded many of her recipes to try including her cookies. I feel for you all as I lost a dear friend who was like a mother to me 12 years ago and still feel her presence. She's in heaven with your parents free of pain and rejoicing. May prayers and condolences are with your all.

Martha Kostyra must have been a wonderful school teacher. Her smile, dedication to the task, her ability to make students love and learn; what a treat to have her as a teacher.

Dear Martha Kostrya Family,
It was through Martha Stewart that I came to know many of you in the Kostrya family. I send you the deepest sympathy on the loss of your mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister. It has been a pleasure getting to know all of you through the years via Martha Stewart. Martha Kostrya reminded me so much of my husband's grandmother, right down to her mannerisms and even her hands as she worked in the kitchen. Your faith and your strength as a strong family will now sustain you through this difficult time. I know Martha is happy in Heaven with her beloved husband. I will offer my weekly Mass and communion for Martha and each of you for the coming Holiday season.
Sincerely and with deep affection for all of you, in loving memory of your dear matriarch,

Dear Kostyra Family,
Thank you for giving us the privelge of sharing your dear Mother with America. Anyone whom has lost their Mother or Grandmother understands your ache, and how much you miss her, instantaneously. She lead a life well lived and was a wonderful example for how to live a vigorous and relevant life as one ages, with grace and dignity. And thanks for her extensive progeny, who have become so influential in American culture. It really is all about Big Martha, isn't it? Thank you Big Martha. Dear Martha: I was so sad to hear about your mother. I enjoyed watching her on your shows, especially making the mushroom soup and pierogi. She reminded me very much of my aunt. Your mother's maiden name happens to be the same as my grandmother's maiden name. With the resemblence, name and mannerisms there must be some connection. When I'm making pierogi, you can be assured I'll be thinking of your mother.

Your mother was a precious jewel here on earth and she will shine just as brightly in heaven.
I am going to miss her but I won't be sad for I can already see her kneading dough, making pierogies and telling everyone who will listen how she taught her daughter, Martha, everything she knows!
My condolences to the entire Kostyra family and may God bless all of you and keep you strong.

A Life Lived Well & Loved Much
May the joys of her happiest memories be doubled as she is laid to her final rest.
May she recall the shared memories and that those joys be doubled on earth and in heaven.
For love inspired by a glad moment illuminates the heart, transcending time & space.
Hope inspired comforts a weary soul and troubled heart.
May all life's best be hers for the asking in the place where she must now travel to alone.
As she lifts her eyes to the stars above that welcome her with open arms
May she remember all the gifts of love that were given freely to her
And may any hurts that she had caused be forgiven and cast away.
May there be not a bitter sea but only hearts of peace on the waves of time passing.
May there be love given openly and received unconditionally in the lives of those left behind.
May there be a gentle hand to wipe away a child’s tear that may not understand
And a smile to comfort the saddened heart that grieves at the lose of what might have been.

With Grandma’s Love
With Grandma’s love the heart is light.
With Grandma’s love the day is bright.
With Grandma’s love the heart can sing.
My Grandma’s love can concur anything.
With Grandma’s love there comes a smile
That makes a life seem its more worthwhile.
With Grandma’s love a child knows peace.
With Grandma’s love the pain will cease.
With Grandma’s love we learn God’s grace.
With Grandma’s love we learn of a sacred place.
Where God can enter any heart that’s broken by sorrow
And cleanse it with tears for a brighter tomorrow.
Dear Lord, I pray, take care of Grandma’s love.
And let her watch o’er me from heaven above.
Welcome her with open arms for she is like no other
She’s as special as they come,
She’s my dearly loved Grandmother.

A Mother’s Love
By Pamela S. Crabb-Conway
A mother’s love is the music in the song
That nature brightly sings to earth at break of day,
A mother’s love is as vast as the patterns of opal stars
That caresses the horizon and vast rolling plains to show us the way.
A mother’s love is no secret to a child held dear
It’s there within each gentle touch and the kiss upon an infant’s tear,
A mother’s love is a host of many wondrous things
The mending words of silent prayer and the healing peace it brings.
A mother’s love is like the amber autumn sun
That illuminates each corner and warms the coldest day,
It is like the gentle rain that comes in sweet repose
To refresh our dreams, renew our hopes along life’s weary way.
A mother’s love is like the twinkling of a distant crystal star that shines alone
That lights our footpath straight and sure to show each stumbling stone,
A mother’s love is as gentle as a rippling, sunny brook
That calmly threads its way through life, guiding us to each peaceful, shady nook.
A mother’s love is a precious gift of both the rich and poor
It tells of enchanted stories that live forevermore,
A mother’s love is unconditional, soul bound and true
And no matter where you travel you take her love with you.
It can never be replaced, this thing called mother’s love
And with the help of God’s almighty hand to guide it from above
The dark shall surely turn to light again and despair shall fall away
For a mother’s there to champion your cause no matter what the day.
A mother’s love is the greatest gift that you will ‘re receive
It’s yours without condition from the moment you’re conceived,
In humble prayer, on bended knee, thank the gracious Lord above
For the miracle and gift, you’ve come to know as mother’s love.

My thoughts are with you and your family. I know Mrs. K will rest well in heaven. I felt like she was an honorary grandma as when she appeared on your show all these years she made me "feel" as if welcomed into the kitchen as if we were all sitting around the table at her home in Nutley.
It was fun talking with her on the radio and to hear her share some memories of her life with you on your Mother's Day special this past May. I am so glad I was able to call in and talk with her.

Mrs. Martha Kostyra, my dearly beloved sixth grade teacher (1963, St. Mary's School in Nutley, NJ) will be sorely missed. She made a lasting impression on me that has left an indelible mark on my life and on my soul.
