I met Martha through the Chaine over 20 years ago. Over the past 20 years Martha and I had many fun adventures and of course, dining with the best chef's, gourmet foods and wines. What others have said about Martha is true and she was an exceptional lady and elegant.

Also, she used my insurance firm to assist her placing commercial insurance for the Royce Family with a package versus individual policies bring down the cost with better coverages.

We'll all miss Martha and her friendly smile but she's in a better place with God... Tom Hoshiyama

Dear Martha,
God has reached out for you and taken you from this Life unto Himself and His Angels in Heaven, to Eternal Life. You lived life to the fullest and will be missed by all of your family and friends.
It has been a true joy and pleasure knowing you and sharing part of your life. I send to your Family and Loved Ones all My Very Sincere Condolences and Prayers during this very difficult time. May the knowledge that the Path You are now on is part of Life's Journey and that you are at rest, in God's Embrace, bring a level of Peace and Acceptance to the Family and All Who Love You. Hugs and Kisses and Fond Aloha,
Your Friend, Jim Scholz

Dear Editor
Our Northern California community has lost a truly great supporter of the arts, Martha Melton who died this week. During her life she did not allow any tributes but now we must speak out.
Because of her efforts over the last 50 years more than 300 artists have thrived as she created and guided the first legal artists live work warehouse in San Francisco. Where once stood an empty cold storage warehouse in the Mission district, today we have a thriving 40 member community with many well-known artists.
Back in the 60's when we artists were being evicted all over the city, together with The Royce family, she developed a system so that the artists could bring their buildings up to code and also control their own communities.
Remember the Ghost Ship? Not on Martha's watch. The opposite of that is what this brilliant woman accomplished.
We will all miss her.

We at Developing Environments will miss her support and guidance. She personally oversaw our tenancy at 3901 Mariposa/540 Alabama since the earlly 1970's. Over the years we have developed a close relationship with Martha as she understood how we worked internally, working with the Royce family, We appreciated her candor. honesty and frankness. She exhibited style, friendship, trust and generosity consistently over the years from early 1970s to the present. We will miss her presence, spirit and leadership qualities. Long Live Martha! We will never forget her.
