Martha Tenhunen Obituary

Peacefully on Saturday Feb 21st, 2009 at Thunder Bay Regional Hospital in her 87th year with her family members around her, Martha (Koivu) passed on to be with the loved ones who have gone before her - husband Ewald, parents Alex and Anna Koivu, brothers Arthur and Reino, step brothers Olavi Smedberg and Arne Matson, step sister Aili Letho, sister Esther Kapush, son Alfred and grandsons Troy, Kyle and Nick Vowles. Martha will be dearly missed by her children Shirley (Gerald Garneau), Arne (Helen), Arthur (Barbara), Albert, Beverly, Ilona Matheson and Archie (Grace); grandchildren Randy, Nadina (Mike Kelso), Dana Vowles, Andy (Melanie), Curtis, Scott (Renee), Trevor (Lindsey), Sherry (Rob Jarvis), Kelsey, Shaun, Kim, Carl Matheson, Nathan Matheson (Carrie), Amanda and Christopher; great grandchildren Aaron, Brent, Kari, Cole, Clay, Carter (and one on the way), Ethan, Bradon, Bradley, Michelle, Samantha, Nicolas, Shayla, Travis, Tyler, Randy, Amilia and Sophie. Also survived by dear friend Ronald Kangas and numerous family members in Canada, U.S. and Finland. Lifetime resident of Intola, Fowler, Port Arthur, Thunder Bay, Martha's helping hands, loving and forgiving heart for her family, neighbours, friends and Community cannot be described by words - she was a wonderful mother and remarkable Finnish-Canadian woman with SISU!!! A service honoring Martha will be held Friday Feb 27th, 1:00 p.m. at Hilldale Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation. "Coffee's on at One Island Lake" July 4th to celebrate Martha's life - like Mom would say "Everyone welcome!".
