Martin, i often think of you and the stories you shared about all your fruittrees. It was nice knowing you. I really hope you are happy on the other side.

We met Martin and Eva through my parents Joop and Aagje van Olden several years ago. When we would take my folks up for a visit, they we're always warm, kind and very giving. Both my parents passed away in 2022, but we were able to keep in touch with Martin, and visited him last in October 2023 on our way to visit my niece in Seattle. We were very saddened to learn of his passing. Our condolences to all his family.

I took Martin around on some errands. Frank was out of town and I was on vacation. We spent the day together getting things done and having lunch. I loved his story and his stories. Through all of the adversity he truly lived a great life. He was an inspiration and proof that life and food can be enjoyed at any age.

I have a lot of memories on the evenings I skyped with Martin and he showed me the dutch cakes and sweets he got and was eating. I asked him then if he could give me a piece because I can´t by it in Norway. Then he was laughing and offered me something knowing it wasn´t possible for me to catch it!
The stories he told about the time he was together with Eef and the way he missed her.
All the things he was telling about his childhood in Indonesia and the few years he lived in Nijmegen. The city he loved so much!
Also that he was homesick and longing to the Netherlands. We talked a lot about that in dutch, the language he missed so much! I told him that the Netherlands was not the same country he remembered.
The way he missed his dad who had meant so much to him.
Sometimes he sent me stories about cities and countries he had seen on You Tube. He was interested in many things.
Martin was a very kind and intelligent person.
I will remember him as one of my best friends and I will miss him terribly.
Rest in peace dear Martin together with you beloved Eef.

Selamat jalan Martin, we will meet again!

Heb Martin leren krnnen via correspondentiegroep Wereldwijders. Hij had hrt bedrijf nog en was samen met Eef nog volop in de running. Wij hebben ook een tijdje gecorespondeerd buiten de groep om. Ik zal hem zeer missen, voor mij was Martin altijd een mooie Indische Gentleman! Rust zacht lieve Martin.
