Martin Caudillo Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Dec. 7 to Dec. 14, 2014.
Martin E. "Marty" Caudillo passed away at Longmont United Hospital on Friday December 5, 2014. He was 71 years old. He was born in Laramie, Wyoming to Francisco and Calletana (Delgado) Caudillo, and was the second to the youngest of 13 children. He was part of a large, close knit family and enjoyed spending time with his brothers, sisters, cousins, and his many nieces and nephews. He graduated from Laramie High School in 1962, where he was a Wyoming State Champion wrestler. He shared his love of wrestling with his grandson Alex (Graham) who was two time State wrestling placer in Colorado. He was proud to serve for 12 years in the National Guard and the U.S. Army. Through the years, he enjoyed travel, hiking, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, reading, and spending time in the outdoors. He enjoyed woodworking and carved dozens of hiking sticks to share with family and friends. He loved observing nature and wildlife and spent a great deal of time in Rocky Mountain National Park. Nothing brought him more peace than fly-fishing in the mountain streams. He received his associate's degree from the National Electronics School in Denver. He worked at IBM and Lexmark International in Boulder and retired as a Senior Maintenance Technician after 25+ years. He had an infectious smile, and enjoyed making those around him laugh. He will be most remembered for his love of life, and his wonderful sense of humor. He is survived by his wife Sue (Liddell), his daughter Marni Graham (Mike), his son Alan Caudillo (Alana), his grandchildren Chelsey Anthony (Kevyn), Alex Graham, Annick, Malia, and Degefe Caudillo, and his great grandson Chancellor Anthony. He is also survived by his brothers Frank Caudillo, Jess Caudillo (Julie), Matt Caudillo (Peggy), Al Caudillo (Phyllis), Larry Caudillo (VirJean), and his sisters Janie Knowles, Jo Merrill (Steve), Margie Padgett (Emil), Anna Vigil (Jim), and many nieces and nephews. He has been reunited in heaven with his parents, his sisters Bea Silva (John), and Tula Aragon (Henry), and his brother Joaquin "Porky" Caudillo (Betty Jo). A private viewing was held at Howe Mortuary Sunday Dec. 7th. A celebration honoring Marty's life will be held in 2015 for family and friends to share stories and memories; the date has yet to be determined. Please leave memorials and condolences at howemortuary.com or send pictures to Sue at [email protected], These pictures and memories will be shared at the celebration of Marty's life.

Sue and family, I cannot even imagine how incredibly difficult the last few weeks have been! Even though I didn't know Chum except for the couple of times he came to water aerobics about 10 years ago, I feel like I knew him from the stories Sue would tell! Please accept my deepest condolences and my love for all of you in this very hard time.

To Marty's family, I am truly sorry for your loss. I will always remember our snowshoeing adventures and trips to Vail. I will never forget the one trip we took and we had to end our hike early since Marty wasn't feeling all that well. I had to try and get him out of his snow pants and boots. It was so frigid outside. God only knows what the people passing us thought about it. We just laughed and then hit the bar for a pint. It was one of my most memorable moments and one of many that I will cherish. I miss you, my dear friend. I hope you are at peace. I will raise a pint of wheat beer in your honor.

My thoughts are with all of Chum's family. He was a very good guy and he will be missed. I am glad we got to catch up with him at the class reunion this past summer, he made everyone smile.

Uncle Chum and I had a special bond throughout my life. He used to take me to help him with jobs while he worked for Main TV I was only about 10 years old. That was the first job I ever had. I will never forget the wrestling matches we both had at every family reunion. I only won one out of many. My Uncle could Wrestle. He was my assistant coach on my travel baseball team while my head coach was Stan Sandoval which we also lost recently. He followed my 28 year career in the Coast Guard and I got to spend some time with him just days before going into the hospital. Uncle Chum always made time to visit me each time I came to Longmont. I will miss him dearly. I love you Uncle Chum.

Sue and family,
I am at a loss for words to express how very sorry I am to hear of Marty's passing…I loved and will forever cherish my friendship with him--going to Rockies games, hikes in Estes Park, visits at the cabin and ski trips to Vail were all made more enjoyable because of Marty's infectious smile and wit. I especially loved snowshoeing and fly fishing with him and sharing a pint of good wheat beer (with extra lemons, of course). RIP Marty, my dear friend, I will miss you….

Chum was a good friend, so glad I got to see him in August, it was like we picked up the conversation where we left off 20 years ago. He will be missed by his classmates and and friends. R.I.P. Chum.

I have so many fond memories of my uncle. We lived at Grandmas when Dad went to Viet Nam and my Uncle worked at Coca Cola plant and would always bring me a coke home from work. He made me feel so special. Once we went on a picnic in mountains and I got a spotted tick on my chest and got fever and sick. He took a match and lit it and held it close to me chest and made that tick back out. I always felt that he saved me. He would also play the guitar and sing to me. I will hold on to all of these fond memories until we meet again Uncle. Which may be sooner than we think by the looks of it as we are all falling apart as Mom would say. We are like the Domino effect. One goes and we all start..... Lol. Just thought I'd send you off to Heaven with a chuckle so I could see those beautiful dimples again. So , Audio's A me go until we meet again. ( See you all didn't want to teach us Spanish so we didn't know what you all were talking about and so therefore my Spanish is a little Par 4 The Course, as mom would say. Will miss you but will see you soon.
