Obituary

Martin W. Hass, 87, of Grand Forks, North Dakota died Friday, August 18, 2006 in Valley Eldercare, Grand Forks, ND. Martin Walter Hass was born July 27, 1919 in Little Falls, MN the son of Rev. Walter and Johanna (Schultz) Hass. He grew up and attended school in Little Falls and Alexandria, MN and graduated from the Concordia Academy High School in St. Paul. Martin attended Concordia College in St. Paul, MN. During WWII Martin served in the Air Transport Command from 1942- 1945. He married Evelyn Ruth VanCleve on June 16, 1946 in Osakis, MN. They made their home in Grand Forks and Martin worked for the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad as a chief crew clerk for 33 years before retiring in 1979. Martin was a member of the railroads BRAC. He enjoyed spending time with family fishing at Lake of the Woods and hunting in North Dakota. Martin and Evelyn spent 16 winters in Mesa, Arizona at the Good Life Resort. Martin's family and his church were very important to him, he will be greatly missed. Martin is survived by: Wife: Evelyn - Grand Forks; Sons: Bradley W. (Susan) Hass - Grand Forks, ND; Harold M. Hass - Marysville, WA; Daughters: Judy L. (Billie) Lee - Huntington, TX; Susan J. (Tom) Jacobs - Gillette, WY; Brothers: Vernon (Donna) Hass - Topeka, KS; Howard (Helene) Hass - St. Paul , MN; Sister: Patricia (Tom) Halstrom - Mantorville, MN; Twelve grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren Martin was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Herbert and Gerhardt; sisters Eleanor Porter and Ruth Wilke; an infant son , Johnny Herbert Hass and an infant brother; a grandson Peter Martin Jacobs. Funeral services will be Wednesday, August 23, 2006 at 10:30 AM in Immanuel Lutheran Church, 1710 Cherry Street, Grand Forks, ND. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5 to 7 PM with a prayer service at 7PM in Amundson Funeral Home, 2975South 42nd St., Grand Forks. Interment will be in Memorial Park South Cemetery, Grand Forks. www.amundsonfuneralhome.com
