I spent 8 consecutive wonderful summers as a neighbor of Marty and Marion at Contau Lake. I would walk the short distance through the woods to their cottage and would always have a memorable visit. Marty would take me out on his motor boat and we would cut the engine and just enjoy nature in its stillness. I remember one time out in the middle of the lake Marty and I watched a butterfly flying dangerously close to the surface of the water as if wondering whether it could somehow "land" there. Marty called out to the butterfly, "Don't get too close, butterfly, watch out!" The butterfly heard Marty's warning and flew away. I shall always remember his gentle voice calling out to that butterfly. When you see a butterfly think of Marty.
"A life is like a garden.Perfect moments can be had, but not preserved, except in memory." And, perhaps, in butterflies.

Hello Marian, Jerome, and family
Very touched by the wonderful and heartfelt eulogy that David gave at the funeral. It really was meaningful to those of us who knew him well.

Marty was my first Botox student in 1985 after I was the first in the city to use the drug. He came by my clinic to see the techniques -- and from then on he ran the second clinic for patients with this condition. It was but one example of Marty's voracious appetite for new knowledge and cutting-edge techniques. Soon afterward we became a tag team getting the blepharospasm support group up and running and sharing "Ask the doctor" panels at their semi-annual meetings for over 20 years. And sharing lunches and laughs during the early days when we hosted visiting speakers and guests. He really was a gentle man with a huge heart, which belied his extraordinary intellect. He was a treasured teacher, mentor, colleague, and friend. I will miss him so much.
May his memory be a blessing.
