Had the pleasure of meeting this english gentleman when he was a cadet at the Liceo Naval, and had just today found something he had written about his days there. Both his notes and his obituary, appeared in my computer on the same day, didn't know of his parting. May your soul rests in peace dear Martin.

Today we are celebrating Martin your life in the church we use to go as kids : The Abadia de San Benito de Palermo in de barrio of Belgrano, in Buenos Aires... near the " Casa de la Abuela " ... all your friends from school, the Navy School you went to, will be there, your class and other classes to remember amd honor you. Our family and our family friends are joining us and our own friends from school and life are all attending the gorgeous ancient church to light a candle for you. We will read poems, we will sing, we might shed tears for we all miss you deeply, we will also raise our prayers to the heavens to celebrate we have all had in our lives a beother, a family member a friend such as yourself. We hope our songs, our poems, our tears nd even our embraces reach you and embrace you with our love.
God bless you Martin. I hope you are with our Mom and your Dad and Bosky. We Love you, forever.

To Our Dear Brother Martin :

May the road rise to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
The rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of his hand.

May God be with you and bless you;
May you see your children's children.
May you be poor in misfortune,
Rich in blessings,
May you know nothing but happiness
From this day forward.

May the road rise to meet you
May the wind be always at your back
May the warm rays of sun fall upon your home
And may the hand of a friend always be near.

May green be the grass you walk on,
May blue be the skies above you,
May pure be the joys that surround you,
May true be the hearts that love you.

When we were little, Martin and our Mom read poetry to Laila and I. British, American and Spanish Poems. They also read strories of sword and sorcery, of princesses in distress , of Merlin and Fairies... all of those magic stories, poems, moments, inspired our dreams and today, still, inspire our lives. Here is a toast to the life of a great Man, whom, his sisters, wished, hope, even thought, would live for ever and ever. Martin lives on, in our hearts and souls. God Bless Martin !

I never had the privilege to meet Martin in person. I worked with him on two commissions where he helped me out with long translations with ridiculous deadlines for one person. Not only did he have a great sense of humour but his wisdom, knowledge, professionalism and calm made him the most wonderful collaborator. I am very sorry that I won't now get to meet him and I hope that he knows looking down on us how much he was appreciated and is missed. My thoughts and prayers are with all his family and friends.

I have only just heard this sad news. I never met Martin in person but I worked with him over many years and always found him to be skilled, professional and helpful. Always friendly and straightforward - a valued colleague, and as others have said, a gentleman. He will be greatly missed. Condolences to his family and friends from all of us at Priory Translations Ltd.

Goodbye to a true and loyal friend over a quarter of a century, a generous and gentle man, witty raconteur and modest but eminent linguist who always stuck up for me in the face of criticism.

'And where will fate send death to me?
In battle, in my travels, or on the seas?
Or will the neighbouring valley
Receive my chilled ashes?
And although to the senseless body
It is indifferent wherever it rots,
Yet close to my beloved countryside
I still would prefer to rest.'

Alexander Pushkin

'Ya no me encontraron. / ¿No me encontraron? / No. No me encontraron. / Pero se supo que la sexta luna huyó torrente arriba, / y que el mar recordó de pronto! / los nombres de todos sus ahogados.'
