To Linda and family,
Remembering Martin
==================
We had not seen each other for a few years, but when we did, Martin and I always had great conversations. There was lots of teasing each other about our different political affiliations and ideological perspectives. It was good natured banter. But above all, there was an intellectual rigour and integrity, along with a kindness of spirit and a wonderful sense of irony and humour.
I had hoped we would grow old together in retirement and continue the dialogue. Instead, I have lost a comrade and this night is darker than most. There were so many conversations we did not finish.
take care dear soul,
our love to your family.
Alan

Dear Linda, Andrew, Jessica and family,
We were saddened to hear of Martin's passing. Although we only met him a few times, Martin was a most impressive, kind and charming gentleman. His love and devotion towards his family was admirable and I know how much he adored little Ava and Vivian. May you be comforted by those around you and by the many warm and wonderful memories we are sure you shared with Martin. May he be at peace. With our most sincere sympathy,

A sad, sad loss. We remember informal dinners with Martin and Linda, and Martin's always humorous political debates with jackie. We also recall Martin and Linda's wonder at finding a train that took them from Cambridge to our summer house in Shropshire. And Martin and Linda walking Sonny Liston, the boxer dog, and Martin's insistence on ordering Yorkshire pudding with his roast pork at the local pub. A lovely man, gone far too soon.
With our sympathy and affection.

I articled at Gowlings in 1985 and worked for Martin occasionally at that time. You also lived next door to my parents for some time. For the last few years, I have had the pleasure of having Martin appear before a tribunal I sit on.
He was just a terrific lawyer and a very decent person. I am very sorry for your loss. The bar has lost an outstanding counsel and I feel very lucky to have known him. With sympathy.

Martin was one of the most talented counsel in the country, and a man of great civility and kindness. He will be sorely missed in the profession, by his many friends and admirers, and most of all, I'm sure by his family - but his legacy will survive, thank God.
