Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 4, 2006.
STAMFORD, Conn. - It is with great sadness and a profound sense of loss, that the family of Martin Fahy Mulry announces his passing.

He died Saturday morning, Dec. 2, in Stamford, following a long and courageous battle with cancer.

He was the beloved son of Lawrence and Mary Jane Kenny Mulry; beloved brother of John, Maryellen, Ann, Lawrence, Catherine, Frances and Dorothy Mulry, all deceased, and Ruth Flagler; the beloved uncle of Mary Jane Newman, Geoffrey Newman, Matthew and Anthony Newman, and Dorothy Tabbah. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews; grandnieces and grandnephews; great-grandnieces; and great-grandnephews, all of whom acknowledged him as the family patriarch.

Born Nov. 14, 1917 in Worcester, Mass., Martin attended North High School, and graduated from Holy Cross College in Worcester. Immediately after his graduation, Martin enlisted in the Army Air Corps (USAF), attended the school of statistics at Harvard University, and served with distinction in the intelligence arena in Britain during World War II, rising to the rank of lieutenant colonel.

He attended Columbia University teacher's college, and received a master of arts degree from Boston College. He was a teacher of Latin in the Worcester school system, and a member of the Air Force Reserve. He distinguished himself with many awards, both as a teacher and in his military service. His students and peers remained loyal throughout the course of his long life.

Martin was an excellent amateur pianist, and an avid fan of classical music. He supported his alma maters, and served on many boards and charitable organizations. His love for his family was legendary. He raised his nieces, Mary Jane Newman and Dorothy Flagler Tabbah, and was instrumental in the upbringing of Geoffrey, Matthew and Anthony Newman. He was a powerful influence for good on all who knew him, and on his many students.

After retirement, he lived in Sandwich, with his sister Dorothy, until her passing in February 2005.

His wake will be held at The Gallagher Funeral Home in Greenwich, Conn., on Wednesday, Dec. 6. Calling hours will be from 4 to 9 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held at St. Patrick's Church, on the Green, in Bedford, N.Y., on Thursday, Dec. 7, at 11 a.m. His burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery.

Marty was an extraordinary person. We were truly blessed to have him in our lives. He was a splendid human being - and classy! He and my Father were close friends from Holy Cross days on; best man at my parent's wedding and my godfather. He remains my guardian angel.
