Marty Ingels Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 22, 2015.
LOS ANGELES (AP) - Marty Ingels, a comedian, actor and talent agent who was married to actress Shirley Jones for nearly 40 years, has died in Los Angeles. He was 79.

A statement on behalf of Jones says Ingels died Wednesday in the Tarzana neighborhood following complications from a stroke.

Beginning in the 1960s Ingels appeared in episodes of many TV shows, including "The Dick Van Dyke Show" and "Bewitched" and co-starred in the 1962 series "I'm Dickens, He's Fenster."

He also had small movie roles.

The raspy-voiced actor later did voice work for hundreds of cartoons, commercials and video games. He voiced Pac-Man in the 1982 animated series.

Ingels also ran a talent agency that booked movie stars such as John Wayne and Cary Grant for TV commercials.

He married Jones in 1977.

We recently heard about Marty. We are so sorry. Butch met Marty through a phone conversation over a year ago. I remember Butch saying..."what a character". His engaging personality left an endearing impression on all who knew him whether briefly or through the many years of his life.

How a guy like Marty could capture a dish like Shirley I'll never understand but I'll say this, "That's the kind
of guy that'll always give guys like me hope."

Always enjoyed his unique quirky comedic demeanor. A bit brash onscreen but you gotta give him his props for being able to romance the ever-sexy Shirley Jones. I'm reminded of a song from The Limeliters folk group in the 60's called "Marty", which I believe they're singing in heaven now because the lyrics in part go, "...let's all move over for Marty, for Marty is not very big."

He had such a great insightful outlook of our current government and political issues. His postings never ceased to amaze me. It was shocking, and sad to hear of his passing. We had just commented on each other's FB posting a week ago. Rest in piece Marty. My condolences to Shirley and the rest of their friends and family.

I enjoyed him as the doctor on the Addams Family who came to take care of Kitty Kat. I also liked him as The Dangerous Diaper Dan on Bewitched when he recorded Darrin's campaigns for the Wright pen campaign. Funny guy. I was shocked to hear the news. Sending sympathies & prayers for peace and comfort. Met Marty at his home in 1998, then I guested on his radio show, he was a great host Saturday nights in Los Angeles. We had great talks on air about spiritual questions and the entertainment world. We gave mutual support to each other with some similar battles we fought and overcame. Saw him last at Sherman Oaks United Methodist Church screening for a film I made about Roberto Clemente. He is so kind. First thing he did was pull me aside to make sure I was doing okay personally. A funny, brilliant, & kind man who always got folks thinking, reacting, laughing, & discussing. I'm grateful we can still see him on some of the classic TV shows. Rest in peace as you are absent from the body, but present with the Lord. Love, Rev. Richard Rossi & family
