Marvel Olson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 11, 2025.
Marvel Elaine Olson, age 90 of Monticello, MN, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 9, 2025. She was born in Albert Lea, MN, on December 23, 1934, the daughter of Mervil and Ella (Constansia) Jensen.

Marvel and her family moved to Bemidji when she was 7 years old. She graduated from Bemidji High School with the class of 1953.

After meeting Richard Olson at a baseball game in Bemidji, the two quickly became sweethearts and were married on April 18, 1953. During their 71 years of marriage, the two enjoyed roller skating, snowmobiling, motorcycling, traveling and square dancing.

Marvel enjoyed being able to raise her daughters as they grew. She also spent time working as a secretary with Modern Glass and with Dick's business. When her girls were older, she enjoyed working in the kitchen with the Anoka School District for many years until her retirement.

Marvel's upbeat and outgoing personality was contagious, and everyone wanted to be a part of it. She often was the life of the party and she greatly enjoyed music and dancing, and spending time with family and friends. Her favorite thing in life was being a wife, mother and grandmother.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Mervil and Ella Jensen; brothers, Richard Jensen and Eugene Jensen; and granddaughter, Missy Randall.

Marvel is survived by her loving husband of 71 years, Richard "Dick" Olson; daughters, Vickie (Donald) Shank, Judy Amundson, Peggy Olson; 7 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sister, Jo-Anne Bahr; sisters-in-law, Marcella Jensen, Edna Jensen, Lois Mandrell; brother-in-law, Karsten Verke; and many other family and friends.

A celebration of Marvel's life will be held at a later date.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Peterson-Grimsmo Funeral Chapel of Monticello, MN. 763-295-2918. www.peterson-grimsmochapel.com
