Marvin Clark Marvin Clark (1938-2025)

Marvin (Marv) Ralph Clark passed away from an aortic dissection on his 87th birthday in Littleton, CO. He passed peacefully surrounded by family while on a trip to visit his grandson, Scott and his fiancée, Natalie.

Marv was born in Fountain, MN to Ralph Clark and Evelyn Clark (née Howe) on August 31st, 1938. Marv and his brothers grew up on a dairy farm near Washington, MN. They worked diligently on their farm while attending school and Marv carried his strong work ethic throughout his entire life. Marv received permission from his father to enlist in the Army at age 17 and was deployed to Germany following World War II. Returning from his deployment he met Joyce Rasmusson in Rochester, MN and the two dated for three years before marrying in 1961. Marv and Joyce were happily married for 64 years.

Marv and Joyce raised four children: Roger (1961), Shari (1962), Kevin (1962), and Wade (1963). The family lived in Rochester, MN and Pine Island, MN for much of the children's lives. Marv worked as a cardiovascular technician at the nearby Mayo Clinic. During his career, he helped develop modern medical technology and assisted with some of the earliest open-heart surgeries in the United States. Marv retired in 2000 after over 40 years of employment.

In 2004 Marv and Joyce moved to Portland, OR to be closer to their daughter Shari, and to help raise two grandchildren: John (age 10) and Scott (age 7). The family lived together in Southeast Portland. Marv was a constant support in his grandsons' lives and transported them between home, school, and countless extracurricular activities. He also often volunteered at the boys' schools, Kenilworth Presbyterian Church, and the Oregon Health Sciences University. Marv loved animals since early in life and was frequently spotted walking the family's chihuahuas, most recently Beans "the neighborhood ambassador". Marv was well-regarded in the neighborhood for being an extraordinarily kind and gentle man.

Marv was preceded in death by three brothers: Wayne, Vernon (Evelyn), and Leon (Helen). He is survived by his wife, Joyce; two brothers, Wes (Mary) and Allan (Robin); four children, Roger, Shari, Kevin (Kari), and Wade (Renee); ten grandchildren, Angela, Sara (Robb), Josh (Maggie), Michael, Ryan (Sara), Kassie (Brady), John (Christina), Scott (Natalie), Kristin (Alex), and Travis; and nine great grandchildren, Emma, Kaitlyn, Jessi, Kloey, Kyson, Aiden, Audrynna, Olivia, and Leo; a large extended family; and many friends, particularly Jason Garretson.

An informal Celebration of Life will take place on Dec. 21, 2025 from 2-5pm at Bowlocity Bowling Alley in Rochester, MN (where Marv used to bowl with co-workers).
