This is Larry Rubin. I went to cut rate toys on devon & western many times with my mother. You knew me and I wish you to rest in peace. - Larry Bruce Rubin

Marvin was an awesome individual. When my children were little in the mid-70s, I often shopped at Cut-Rate--our house was only two blocks away. Marvin was just a regular guy. He never acted like "I'm the owner." I always enjoyed seeing him. I did get to hear him play the piano once at a local fundraiser. I've never forgotten his kind nature and warm smile. I've always considered him one of God's greater gifts. May God comfort and guide all of Marvin's loved ones at this time. CJ Martello

My son loved going shopping at Mr. Hecht's Edgebrook store. I enjoyed it, too. Mr. Hecht was firm, yet kind. May his memory be for a blessing.

My Cousin Marvin was one of the most important people in my life. In high school, I worked for him at Cut Rate and that experience, along with his incisive wit and brilliant instincts taught me so much. I've always attributed my modest success to his guidance and those years were seminal in my development in business.
Over the years I have related so many funny and poignant Cut Rate stories to so many people and I have always had the greatest respect for Marvin's sense of humor, biting wit, integrity and intelligence.
While I haven't seen him in many decades, I think of him often and will love and respect him for the rest of my days.
He was quite a guy.

As a salesman in the Toy Industry since 1969, I had the pleasure to work with Marvin for several decades. In fact. He was my favorite customer of all. He was clever, funny, competitive and generous. If I visited Cut Rate with a sales manager he would always make a point to write an order and praise me to my boss. Marv was one of a kind and a legend in the Toy Industry. God bless him!

I'm so sorry for your loss, Marvin was a wonderful, one-of-a-kind person who although I hadn't seen in many years, I was so saddened to read of his passing! As a manufacturer of some of the great toys from 1978-1998 in the Chicago area, we were well acquainted and I helped in supporting his store(s) any way I could with specials, excess inventory etc. I still remember clearly his calls to me looking for goods and my visits to Devon Avenue to see Marv.
He did so much to make so many happy especially offering great products with affordable prices. There never was and there never will be another like Marvin. Rest In Peace old friend.
