Mary Frances Adams

Mary Frances Adams, 74, of Summerville, SC, passed away Tuesday, March 5, 2024, in the comfort of her home with family. A celebration of life service will be held March 22, 2024, at 11:00am at Miles Road Baptist Church, 816 Miles Jamison Road, Summerville, SC 29485. The family will receive friends an hour before the service. A graveside service will follow at Dorchester Memory Gardens, Summerville, SC. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in honor of Mary Frances to Dorchester Paws 136 4 Paws Lane, Summerville, SC 29483.

Mary Frances was born June 22, 1949 in Triangle, VA to Frederick and Helen Randall where she attended Garfield and Stratford High Schools. After high school, she worked at several federal agencies including Fort Belvoir and the Pentagon. She eventually moved to South Carolina where she worked for the Colleton Health Department in Walterboro, SC for ten years and later worked at SPAWAR Charleston for over 20 years where she retired in 2007.

Mary Frances met her husband, Bruce, in July 1983, and they were married in October 1985. She became an avid runner after they married and participated in many races over the years winning numerous age group awards. She loved her family and looked forward to their annual family reunion and crab feast at Captain John's every June. Spending time with her brothers and sisters picking crabs was one of her favorite pastimes. Another of her favorite pastimes was spending time at Folly and Edisto beaches where she loved to search for shark's teeth and seashells.

Mary Frances was best known for her outgoing personality, kind heart, and infectious smile. She never met a stranger and would strike up conversations with people while standing in line at the grocery store or bank. Her kind heart led her to love all animals, especially her cats. She adopted and rescued many cats over the years and dearly loved them. On her morning walks, she always carried cat treats to feed the neighborhood cats. She also cared for the birds, racoons, possums, deer, and other animals that lived in the woods behind her home and provided food for them.

Mary Frances was grounded in her strong Christian faith and loved her church (Miles Road Baptist) where she was baptized and participated in several Bible studies. She read her Bible and devotionals and listened to Christian music almost daily. Her favorite Christian worship song was Graves into Gardens by Brandon Lake.

Mary Frances was preceded in death by her mother, Helen Riley; father, Frederick Randall; step-father, Richard Riley; and sister, Tracey Riley. Survivors include her husband, Bruce Adams; sister, Lois Carter; brothers, Fred Randall, Jr. (Velma) and Richard Riley (Venna); nieces, Wendy and Emily; nephew, Freddie; ten great nieces and nephews; and her beloved cats, Sheldon and Cassie.
