Mary Ann Robertson Senn Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 21, 2025.

Mary Ann Robertson Senn, 72, passed away peacefully on March 14, 2025, at her home in Sandy, Utah, with her family by her side. With courage, she strenuously fought advanced ovarian cancer for a long 14 years. She was a brave warrior.

Mary Ann was born on February 18, 1953, in Provo, Utah. She was the eldest child of Matt Russell Robertson and Martha Pope Robertson, both of whom preceded her in death. She grew up in American Fork, Utah, with three sisters and loving parents who taught the highest of morals, honesty, respect for others, the value of hard work, unconditional love of family and to always maintain a sense of humor. She carried these valuable teachings with her throughout her life and passed them onto her children and grandchildren. Mary Ann possessed enviable qualities that formed her beautiful uniqueness. She had the sharpest of minds, was completely trustworthy, laughed freely, and had an impenetrable iron will.

Mary Ann graduated from American Fork High School where she participated in many activities, her favorites being the American Fork High School Color Guard and the Cavettes. She had great passion for the American Fork High School Marching Band and followed it throughout her life. She was thrilled when the band was named the 2002 Utah Official Band for the announcement of the Salt Lake City Winter Olympics. Mary Ann excelled academically and enrolled as a third-quarter sophomore when she started her secondary education at Weber State University. She was active for several years in the International Order of Job's Daughters and is a Past Honored Queen of Bethel No. 4, Provo, Utah.

Mary Ann had a great sense of adventure. During her high school years, she spent two summers working on a ranch in Pinedale, Wyoming, where she cooked and worked on the farm … oh and where she met a first love! She treasured our Earth and the National Parks, many of which she visited. Her childhood home was close to Mount Timpanogos. When she was old enough, she hiked to the top of the mountain and thereafter did so several times throughout her life.

Mary Ann developed a passion for riding dirt bikes in southern Utah and took 3rd place in the Cherry Creek race, women's division. She exhibited an undying passion for The Olympics. One of her dreams came true when she served as a volunteer at Utah Olympic Park during the Salt Lake City 2002 Winter Olympic Games. She exuded pure happiness during this time and was fortunate to attend the Closing Ceremony, where she sobbed because it was over. She also volunteered for the Tour of Utah bike race. During these volunteer opportunities, she made life-long friends. Later in life, she grew to love football – both collegiate and the NFL. Maybe this happened because of the high school football games she attended to watch her grandson, Tai, play.

Mary Ann worked for many years as a bank manager for First Security Bank, later to become Wells Fargo Bank. She received many awards, was highly respected for her work ethic, and worked in several branches across the State of Utah until health issues made it necessary for her to end her working career.

Travel was important to Mary Ann, and she took many trips with her children, her grandchildren and her sisters. One of her most memorable trips was visiting New York City with her daughter and granddaughter. Times Square was her favorite! She was a masterful cook and loved making meals for her children and grandchildren. She knew everyone's "favorites," which they would get on their birthdays, and each one had their favorite pie on Thanksgiving. Her passion for music lasted throughout her life creating a vast selection of treasured artists and songs. Her favorite group was The Beatles, and her favorite song was one of theirs, "In my Life."

Mary Ann's absolute best friend, Sandra Steele, passed away when Mary Ann was a junior in high school. This would prove to be impactful for the rest of her life as she missed Sandra every day and spoke of her often and until the last day of her life. Our wish is that they are together now, "catching up."

Mary Ann had several dogs during her life. They were "part of the family" and treated like royalty. She loved them passionately and deeply. Her last dog, Apple, enjoyed miles of walks, puzzle and frisbee time, September mornings at Dippin' Dogs (swimming), and endless car rides where Mary Ann would "boost" her into the backseat. Apple was by Mary Ann's side through her battle with cancer until her demise. Mary Ann asked her granddaughter, Tiare, to take Apple following her death, and that is where she now resides.

The most important thing to Mary Ann in her life was her family. She was a pillar of strength for her children and grandchildren. They adored her and appreciated her adventurous side, her wisdom and the calm she "brought to the table." In December before her passing, Mary Ann became a great grandmother when her granddaughter, Malia, gave birth to a son. Mary Ann and her youngest granddaughter, Kiana, shared the love of drill, and Mary Ann watched all her drill competitions. She was a friend to and loved deeply by her sisters and many nieces and nephews. Some of her "other" names were Grammy, Gram, Doodle and Aunt Crazy.

We were blessed to have Mary Ann in our lives and will miss her deeply every single day for the rest of ours. However, to have her finally out of her pain is worth all the grief that we will face in the days ahead. She lived a valiant life and was loved.

Survivors include children, Nikki Doutis Gonzales and Troy Doutis; grandchildren, Tiare (Henry) Olivarez, Tai Gonzales, Malia Gonzales, and Kiana Gonzales; great grandson, Kia'i Gonzales; and sisters, Melanie (Steve) Allen, Melinda (Rick) Thomas, and Michelle Robertson.

Mary Ann's family wishes to express sincere gratitude to her oncologist, Scott J. Samuelson, of whom Mary Ann referred to as her friend; the Aspire Home Health & Hospice nurse, Mindy, who lovingly cared for Mary Ann on her last day; and her neighbors who have been both friends a constant support over the years.

If you wish to honor Mary Ann's life, please consider a donation to the Huntsman Cancer Foundation or Best Friends Animal Society.

Mary Ann's family will gather privately to celebrate her remarkable life.

Mary Ann was a dear friend in elementary school. We had so much fun playing jacks, and spending time at each other´s houses after school. She loved reading. One time in third grade, she put a good book inside her math book during our math time. The teacher came by Mary Ann´s desk and watched for a while. That girl was so involved in the book that she didn´t see the teacher. It was hilarious!
She was a bright light in my life! I will miss you Mary Ann. Love always, Patricia Sykes Tolton

A true example of love, strength and tireless commitment to the things most important in life. She was a "mom" to me during my most influential years. She listened. She counseled. And she worked tirelessly to support her family. The imprint of her hand in my life will always remain. I´m sure I´m not the only one. Rest from the pain and the struggles of your body. You have fought the good fight and blessed all those around you along the way. Thank you for being you.

Growing up close to the Robertson family home will always be large part of my life.
Melanie, Mary Ann's younger sister, was & still is my closest friend. I remember the closeness Mary Ann had with her best friend Sandra Steele. They would sit for hours and listen to their favorite songs (especially The Beatles) for hours. Their favorite song was Simon & Garfunkel's "Bridge Over Trouble Waters".
As I was just a kid, I always wanted to be just like Mary Ann; beautiful, talented, book smart and popular. Rest in peace beautiful soul, I will never forget you!

I knew MaryAnn and all of her family when I was a member of Jobs Daughters. She taught me to love big dogs by sharing one of their Great Danes with our family. I have had big dogs ever since. I saw MaryAnn recently when she was working at Wells Fargo in Park City and so sorry to hear she had passed. She was a great influence on my life and a wonderful friend.
