Mary Auman Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 3, 2009.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. today at Williams Southside Funeral Home-Memorial Park for Mary Auman, Southside, who died Sunday, Nov. 1, 2009, at Riverview Regional Hospital in Gadsden. Dr. Scott Harris and Bro. Bill Drummons will officiate. Williams Southside Funeral Home-Memorial Park directing.
Born Sunday, May 14, 1922, she was the daughter of Manda Westren and stepfather, Frank Westren. She was the wife of Clyde Auman for 53 years. She was a member of Southside Baptist Church.
Surviving are son, David (Brenda) Auman, Canal Fulton, Ohio; daughters, Diana (Wayne) Greenwood, Alexandria, and Doris Auman, Rogers, Alaska; and grandchildren, Jeremy and Lindsay Auman, Canal Fulton, Ohio, and Andrew Smith, Rogers, Alaska.
Our mother, Mary Auman, loved life and she loved people. After her children left home, she volunteered for several community organizations, and she was an active member in several clubs, including Gadsden Greeters, Southside Senior Center and Goodyear Women's Club. She believed in taking part in her community and in giving to those in need. She was a special member of Southside Baptist Church, and she loved her church family.
Mary was a smart, strong and active woman until the end. She loved to travel with her church and local clubs. She loved the fellowship and sharing with others and socializing with her dear friends, Sandy Trees and Helen Brown. Most of all, Mary loved her family and spending time with them. Mary touched so many lives with her warmth, humor, compassion and love. She will be greatly missed by family and friends, but we can find peace and consolation in knowing that she is waiting pain-free for us to join her again in her new heavenly home.
Mom did not want her friends to remember her in death. She wanted them to remember the good times they shared with her in life. She did not want to receive flowers that she could not smell and enjoy. For those reasons, she chose to have a gathering of the family and friends at the graveside.
In lieu of flowers, she would have liked a donation to be made on her behalf to Love Center, 915 S. 12th St., Gadsden, AL 35901, and Southside Baptist Church, 3975 Hwy. 77, Southside, AL 35907.
