Mary Baurichter Obituary

Mary Baurichter
August 17, 1950 - November 15, 2022
Gig Harbor, Washington - Surrounded by her family, Mary passed away into the arms of her Heavenly Father. Mary was born in Pelican Rapids, Minnesota to Rev. Jacob and Laura Jerstad. She grew up in a loving family, the fourth of six children. Mary graduated from Minnehaha Academy, in Minneapolis and received her teaching degree from Concordia College in Moorhead, MN.
Shortly after college Mary met Jim, the love of her life. They were married June 23rd, 1973 in Hastings, Nebraska. They raised four children. The family enjoyed outdoor activities including skiing, biking, hiking and gardening. One of her favorite hiking paths, near the family cabin in Packwood, is named "Mary's Walk" in her honor. Mary taught English at Pioneer Middle School. She owned and operated the Fircrest Swim Shop for 40 years. To know Mary was to love her! She exhibited the fruits of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Her greatest joy was her family. The above photo was taken just two days before her sudden and unexpected passing. Mary will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.
Mary is survived by her husband James, four children: James (Shannon), Paul (Rebecca), Samuel, and Anne Burleigh (John), eight grandchildren, sisters: Randi Jacobs, Rachel Flath (Tom), Julia Will (Michael) Sandy Jerstad, and brother John Jerstad (Karla). Mary was preceded in death by her parents Rev. Jacob and Laura Jerstad and brother Mark Jerstad.
A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, January 21st at 1:00pm at Chapel Hill Presbyterian Church in Gig Harbor, WA.

I remember Mary when she and Jim were first married. I would drive her to her substitute teaching jobs. I remember when she was pregnant with Jim Jr. and wearing Jim's jeans and making fruit salad in the kitchen. Jim was like my big brother through all my growing up, we did a lot together. I'm sorry to hear of Mary's passing, but want you to "Rejoice" because she has graduated to that perfect place that we all long to be in. You will see her again someday and that reunion will be blessed.

I met Mary at Bible Study at Chapel Hill. We were in Bible Studies together for a few years, once it was just the 2 of us! I loved the way she loved the Word & Jesus & was such an example of His love to me & to everyone around her. I also could stop in on Thursdays to the swim shop (even with the dog) & have a little chat now & then. Heaven is more joyful with her there, yet we are much sadder until we see her once again. My heartfelt prayer for the family & dear friends is to know that God grieves with us & may you know the comfort only He can give.
