BERKEL Mary Lou Mary Lou Berkel, 80, lost her courageous battle with Alzheimer's on March 21, 2012, taking her last breaths outside, under a gorgeous blue sky and bright sun, surrounded by her loving children. She was born on April 30, 1931, to the late Helen and Russell Raymond. Mary Lou graduated from Woodward High School in 1949. She served in the U.S. Navy and was a proud member of CWV Jude Thaddeus Post #1675. Mary Lou was a life-long member of St. Vincent de Paul Parish. She especially enjoyed gardening, crafting, shelling and her homes in Bradenton, Florida and Merry Lake, Michigan. In addition to her parents, Mary Lou was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband of 56 years, Kenneth Lawrence Berkel "KB-37", and son, Lawrence Kenneth Berkel. My prayers and condolences go out to everyone. Mary Lou was loved by all and had such a full and wonderful life. Her and Ken's family are some of the best people I have met in my lifetime and are a tribute to her. She was always happy to see me and we both smiled and reminisced of days gone past. She was an inspiration to me in many ways, I am sure she is happy to be reunited with all those who have gone before her and is smiling down on those left here that she loved so much.

Greg, Kim and Family-
My heart is with you during this difficult time.

The Magic of a Mother's Touch
There's magic in a Mother's touch,
and sunshine in her smile.
There's love in everything she does
to make our lives worthwhile.
We can find both hope and courage
Just by looking in her eyes.
Her laughter is a source of joy,
her works are warm and wise.
There is a kindness and compassion
to be found in her embrace,
and we see the light of heaven
shining from a Mother's face.
Anonomous

With much love and prayers,

Jeff & Vicky Riebe

In My Pocket

I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.

My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.

They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.

Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.

But of all the treasures I have, it's the memories of you that are the most precious.

I graduated from Woodward with Mary Lou.
She loved sports and she tried to make a softball player out of me. She was good, but I never was. I am sure she is going to be missed by her family and friends. I am so sorry.
