Mary Karlene "Mima" Butt

Mary Karlene Butt, née Riffe, affectionately known as Mima, passed away on July 30, 2024, in Carmichael, California, at the age of 85. Born in December 1938, in Paintsville, Kentucky, Mary lived a life marked by devotion to her family and faith.

Mary will be lovingly remembered as a supportive military wife to her late husband, Lt. Col. Robert A. Butt (Ret.). Her grace, charm, and the warmth of her personality enriched the lives of all who knew her. She was particularly admired for her beautiful singing voice, which graced the stage at the Jenny C. Wiley Amphitheater when she starred as Maria in a live production of "The Sound of Music."

Mary is survived by her daughters, Denise Lovejoy and husband Jeff, Sheryl Bussard, and Melissa Mandeville and husband Scott. She was a cherished grandmother to Krista Bitter and husband Derek, Kelly Lovejoy and husband Vaughn Anderson, Jackson Bussard and wife Kristin, and Chase and Natalie Mandeville. Mary also leaves behind her great-grandchildren Sammi, Pheobe, and Damian. Additionally, she is survived by her cousin Mary Jo Burke and nephew Carl Mirzaian, along with grandnieces Mira and Taya.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert, her mother, Mary Allene Riffe, and her sister, Grayce Mirzaian.

The family plans to hold a private memorial service in the fall to honor Mary's memory. Her legacy of love, dedication, and artistic talent will forever resonate with those she leaves behind.
