On July 4, 2015, our wonderful mother Mary regained her freedom and independence at the age of 85 years. Her smile and cheerful nature were with her
till her last days. We would like to thank the kind and talented care givers that assisted Mary over the many years in which she faced Alzheimer's Disease with dignity
and grace.
Survived by brothers Jack and Doug; children Kathryn, Joan (Ron), and Rod (Wendy); grandchildren Michael (Justine), Katie, Ryan (Rebecca), Allan, Jennifer and Lisa; great-granddaughter Gracie and many other family and friends. Predeceased by her husband Doug; parents Elsie and George and siblings Bill, Bob and Violet.
Cremation has taken place and a private family Memorial will take place in Saskatoon, SK where mom will be reunited with husband, parents and sister. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Mary may be made to the Alzheimers Society of Alberta.
I am standing upon the seashore. A ship at my side spreads her white sails to the morning breeze and starts for the blue ocean. She is an object of beauty and strength. I stand and watch her until at length she hangs like a speck of white cloud just where the sea and sky come to mingle with each other.
Then someone at my side says:
"There, she is gone!"
"Gone where?"
Gone from my sight. That is all. She is just as large in mast and hull and spar as she was when she left my side and she is just as able to bear her load of living freight to her destined port.
Her diminished size is in me, not in her. And just at the moment when someone at my side says: "There, she is gone!" there are other eyes watching her coming, and other voices ready to take up the glad shout: "Here she comes!"
